I envy you guys who get to own, use AND enjoy things of practical beauty like these. I'm a Brit, we live in a country where we're not trusted with fixed blades of any length, not with lockers of any length, nor with folding non-lockers with an edge of more than 3". I content myself with a spyderco grasshopper or kiwi in my watch pocket for edc. Even that is probably asking for trouble as you can get a criminal record simply from having a SAK in the glovebox of your car. Crazy world. Great vid.

agreed, they should stick what they are good at. Bowie are freaking awesome knives, look great and can be used for self defense. But for wilderness, the best thing I can see used, is well...a machete. It heavy, but it can chop, slice, crack, and help you through anything you might need, but its heavy, and probably will be the only one you will use in the wilderness anyway, just pack a small bowie as you go :D.

Great review, Nutn. Some idiot was talking about how the SOG Jungle Canopy---with inferior steel no less---was better than the Creed. I have the Creed and have put it to good use, and this knife is a very underrated knife, certainly unheralded in the blade community. The expensive price tag is an understandable turnoff for some people, and it really set me back; but, functionally, the SOG Creed is everything it looks to be and then some. The added bonus of quality stainless steel for corrosion resistance in my humid and wet climate only makes the Creed a more sensible choice for camp duties and survival applications rather than the popular carbon steel blades which are certainly great in their own right. I do wish this knife had a better sheath though, and for the money, you would think that SOG could have done better in that area.

Hey Nutn I have a tip for you if you need to take that barrel nut off the SOG tale 2 allen keys that fil in the holes stand one vertically with the L in the air and take another one put the L side in the hole and turn it so the long shank on the one key is up against the other and turn it will undo the barrel nut. I hope that helps my directions might not be the best but play around with it if im not making sense youll figure it out. Great vids BTW. SOG HQ in my backyard btw 30 min drive

Oh and with the seal team elite, I have medium hands med gloves fit well like a glove. I can get 8 fingers on the handle. so there is plenty of handle real estate and it is also great for leverage when chopping, and it has the tang sticking out of the handle, id like the pommel to be more aggressive but the flat rectangular pommel will do
@paulie4x111 жыл бұрын
Mr. NnF, I buy my knives by steel type, geometry, style. When Cold Steel took a 0170-6C steel, and Sub-Zero quenched it, It turned into their proprietary CarbonV, In most cases 1% of carbon makes a good edge retention, there are exception's e.i. 5160, 3V etc. I never liked AUSTIN 8 because of that, but S.O.G has their Cryogenic Tempering, and it man's the AUS 8, a much better steel, sort of what C.S. does for their steel. I did buy the S.O.G. Creed, because I have a few knives in that size.

I have the Trident 2.0, I also have the Seal Pup Elite, I'm generally a steel snob, that doesn't know how to write heh heh heh, anyhow what S.O.G. does with their CRYO Tempering on the AUS8 is pretty good, both my knives hold a decent edge, I don't know if I have a mental block on Cold Steel with their Zero Quenching Proccess on their AUS8, I think S.O.G.'s Cryo is better atleast I think so because I have both of their knives, I'll give you an example take my Recon Tanto in AUS8 and my Trident 2.0, I can notice a little difference in edge retention, good video, You bring it right to the table and no B.S., Thanx

So I'm in the market for a good blade, and I've been considering a lot of Cold Steel knives, but I think I've found what I'll probably settle with eventually. Seems pretty high end and good quality, but then SOG pretty much *is* quality in and of itself. It looks like if you drop it on the ground the ground will break. Absolutely beautiful knife. When and if I get it I hope I don't end up never using it just because it's so pretty! xD

if your running out of handle with a gov tac or whatever they all have the same handle go with the SOG seal team elite it has scallops (gimping) on the length of the blade. It won the SEAL knife trials with chopping cutting digging salt resistance ect as tests. It is a fantastic all purpose blade, also check out my side by side hackability test to see how it stacks up with other blades I have. Unfortunately I dont have a monster blade like the Recon Scout so I cant compare. but its great
@cmonsterz15 жыл бұрын
Superb review. Every minute of the 24:55 length was very informative. I think that the blade shape is very interesting...kind of Middle Eastern...like a scimitar...or perhaps a pirate's blade. I wish that SOG would graduate from Aus8 into something "better". I'm not knocking the Aus8...have plenty of knives with it that work fine. It just isn't what I would really want in a fixed blade knife.
@TheFlyrodder6810 жыл бұрын
If that's in a convex grind, it's a winner. For big chopping and baton work, that hollow grind is a big pain in the ass. For softer stuff I think it will fine but not for hard wood. No doubt it's a beautiful knife but it's just going to be a collector's knife in my honest opinion. I still want it, haha. Nice review. Thumbs up.

I bought one of these. I demand the best out of my tools. When I hike my life depends upon my equipment working, and working well. Expensive, sure worth the money - yup good tools don't cost they pay!

"Zombie Apocalypse" as I've understood is has always been used a loose term describing an end of world, SHTF/WROL scenerio be it from economic or societal collapse, invasion (foreign armies, NATO, take your pick),etc.. At some point, the term started making it around more and more and it has started to become main-stream. Use the term in a way that you are comfortable or not at all. Basically, the zombie thing isn't to turn us against each other, unless of course you're a zombie.

I have the Outback. I also have the Linder Crocodile Hunter. The Linder is BY FAR the superior blade. If the Outback was made out of a high carbon steel i.e. c60, L6, 5160, 1095, It would be a force to be recon with. The quality of the Outback is rather low for a knife in this price range as well. If your looking for a large bowie with traditional styling that is functional your best bet is Linder, Von Tempsky bowie, Kabar, Ontario sp10, W49

I was only generalizing their knives, not mentioning this one specifically. For $130 AUS8 is totally acceptable, specially for a knife this large (not a 2" folder) and made to SOG's standards. I'm only saying that for highly demanding users like myself I would like to see some better steels being used by them; because they almost solely use AUS8 I am not considering any of their larger knives for purchase, but instead prefer options from companies like Mercworx and Microtech.
