I bought one of these at Walmart for $30 about nine years ago. It’s rock solid and has held up great. Used it on dozens of wilderness hikes and was amazed how comfortable it is. I’m 6’-2” and 250+ lbs, and it rides my frame just fine. I now keep it filled as an ‘extra’ go-bag, in case be have visitors when the shtf. 😉

I’ve had this bag for 7 years and its never failed me. Sustained very little damage. All the zippers still work, Velcro still sticks, etc. This bag almost enjoys getting beat. I use it as a get home bag now for my vehicle.

This is essentially a cosmetic variation of the 5.11 Rush 12 pack with the biggest difference being the addition of the side bottle pocket. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I use one also and love it, mine is packed out with my fishing gear right now. I fly fish so it works great being able to have it on my back when I move to different parts of the lake and still be able to tap the edge of the bank while walking and not have to stop and put down a normal tackle box to cast.

Mine is at 18 lbs right now. It's comfortable enough for an extended trek and I'm of short/medium weight stature. The chest strap is not as tight as I'd like it to be with lighter clothing, but it's fine with a warm weather jacket/coat. The cushioned back area makes things extra comfortable. I agree that 20-25 lbs of fill would be the top end tolerable working weight for this bag (and for me). Carrying that weight should be no problem for a bigger/stronger person. I found that side pocket for bottles to be too tight and added an extra zippered molle water bottle bag that was large enough to accommodate a Stanley cook cup set or SS water bottle inserted into a camp cup. The water bottle pocket side now has a couple of small admin pouches in a stacked formation. There is still plenty of room to pack more stuff into those areas right now. With the addition of the extra bags there are plenty of quick access options outside of the main compartment. This includes the 3 zippered areas at the very top and front of the bag. I always spray 2 coats of waterproofing for added protection. Overall, a fine starter BOB/GH bag, casual backpack, or light-duty EDC bag for the price point that is versatile and doesn't overly look like you're going into battle. Picked mine up in black for less than $30 on sale a few years ago.

Great review! Before I purchased the ninja I have the Field line I purchased at Wal Mart for about the same price and it even looks about the same. I think the sog pack is a little heavier material which is great, and the od color blends in well with the foliage here in summer. I think it's gonna work out great.

Would this be big enough for the SRO basic class? I go in Oct and need a pack to take.
@adaptablesurvival3 жыл бұрын
Great question. No this would be cutting it close size wise. It would be hard getting the wool blanket into one of these
@TonyTooTuff3 жыл бұрын
First of all, thank you for being the guy who takes the time to answer. I’m taking two wool twins because the single queen is too expensive. I have a couple of questions about the class. First, how many litter bag should I get to be enough to fit everything comfortably? Second, I won’t have a car there, I’ll be dropped off for the weekend. Will I have a place to store some gear or will I need to carry everything I bring around with me? I’m wondering if I need a frame pack or will a frameless pack be good enough? Again, thanks for taking the time to reply, it’s appreciated brother.

The design has changed slightly . . . there are no longer "tubing ports" to the left or right of the top carry handle. You can only run tubing through the main compartment zippers which negates the "waterproof" construction a little.
@jeepnicc5 жыл бұрын
I have the newer one as well. Go check to see if yours has a hydration port right in the middle of the top of the pack. It's really hidden well, in between the shoulder strap yoke, and the zipper for the fleece pouch. I didn't find it on mine until owning the pack for almost a year! Sure beats running the tube out of a partially open zipper!

Is this pack still going strong? I noticed you posted this video a few years ago. Just wondering if it's worth the investment, or should I invest in something $70 more?
@adaptablesurvival5 жыл бұрын
I don't use this on a daily basis, so it's held up. But I have turned it into a pack that just rides in my truck. I've heard of them wearing out on people. Who've used it more often. I would look for something in the $70-100 range, just for more dependability of materials.
