I love the powerpint for edc. I created a large flathead by modifying the useless file. I also added a medium flathead by modifying the tip of the bottle opener. I also slimmed down the shaft of the Phillips screwdriver to give it more reach for recessed screws. These modifications make my powerpint a joy to carry and use. It pairs very nicely with a Victorinox compact for a very slim and light edc combo. By the way, you can release the lock by opening another tool on the same arm so you don't have to open the tool to release the lock. It's a shortcut.

The hook blade on the PowerPint is fantastic because when someone you don't trust asks for a knife, it's usually for tape, or a tag and the hook blade is perfect. They won't hurt themselves, the tool, or the thing they're trying to cut.

I agree that reversing the grip is a good option. Do the SOG tools have sharp edges like the gerber nxt? I need to carry a lighter tool because of back issues and currently have the surge.
@NewZonaRides4 жыл бұрын
Yes the lower end SOG’s do have rough edges just like the NXT. You can file them down easy enough but stock they are less refined than the more expensive tools. They are very light weight though.

There's a fast way to release the locked tool on the Powerpint rather than opening up tool up and pressing the lock release. When one tool is locked open just open another tool out, it springs the lock bar up. It is much faster way of releasing the lock. IMHO the SOG Powerpint is a brilliant little tool for the money and very light to carry everywhere at only 119g. For its size it is very impressive, especially the pliers/cutters and having ability to use hex bits. I also love the way all the tools splay out very easily to select the correct tool one wants to use, unlike my Leatherman's which are just so frustratingly fiddly and slow to get the tools open unless it hasn't a nail nick on it, even my FREE p2 is fiddly!

I just got a Power Access and it looks like the tool has been redesigned to eliminate the problem with the handles pressing the lock open. The locking mechanism is now flush with the handles in the same way you modified the tool. Also it does have a serrated blade and a 1/4” driver tool (in addition to the slot to fit hold a bit). The bit set includes a 1/4” socket-bit to use with the 1/4” driver tool.
@jimilborillo8 ай бұрын
I just picked up a Powerpint and doing research on mods led me to your video. Has SOG addressed the locking issue that you fixed on your PowerAccess? I haven't tried looking but I would think it would be an easy fix with their manufacturing tooling and could come out with a V2.

I think if you open another tool that will release the lock, the downside is the file is not as aggressive as other ones but as an edc carry will solve 95% of the regular every day tasks if you need something for work the power access or a leatherman woul be an stronger more useful option but also will get to fail if it's for working stuff I would recommend use the tool box and carry and specific tool for the job. great review 👍

At this point, I think the case could be made that Victorinox scissors are the best in the business. It’s almost not fair to compare them to other companies. Thanks for the explanation.

The plier heads on the Powerpint are almost exactly the same size as the plier heads on the Leatherman Juice series. I think there are actually more gear teeth on the smaller gear wheels of the Powerpint than the PowerAccess Deluxe gear wheels which may explain why the Powerpint opens wider when flat on the table. The Powerpint might be a good introductory multitool if you had a son? The locking blade is 2 inches which makes it legal in California (I think SOG reports that the blade is longer then 2 inches).

I quite agree that the SOG pliers are superior. 1) They come easy to deploy with one hand. 2) They are more powerful (I have actually been able to loosen something with the PowerPliers that I couldn't loosen with the Leatherman Super Tool.). 3) As you showed, you can use them with the handles opened to less than 180 degrees. I don't know if it is true about the newer models, but another major advantage is that SOG makes it easy for you to mix & match optional tools, or replace them at home. I have never felt the need to have small scissors in a full-sized multi-tool. It makes no sense to me. So I replaced the scissors with a hooked seatbelt cutter.

On Halloween day, I was the 666 like. I feel cursed. 😆 🤣 😂 I have been looking at the Poweraccess, the Poweraccess Deluxe and the Powerlock. If the Poweraccess Deluxe had a pocket clip, it would be a no brainer decision. I have the Powerpint and since my Leatherman Rebar wire cutters broke and new ones are brittle currently, I want a medium to heavy duty replacement. My Rebar doesn't have a pocket clip and I am honestly getting tired of a sheath all the time and the Powerpint is amazing for medium to lite duty tasks and I forget I have it clipped to my pocket. I heard the Poweraccess Deluxe wire cutters are one of the best, but I wanted to get someone's opinion on it. Thank you for the video. 😀

Just got the Powerlock - I love the pliers, even though I wished they'd implement replaceable cutters. But for the most part of the extra tools I'd still prefer a Leatherman... now the power access would be great but with the flaw in the locking mechanism it's quite sad that they screwed this...
@NewZonaRides4 жыл бұрын
There are pluses and minuses for sure. A Powerlock has the best cutters as long as you don't do anything crazy to damage them but the Leatherman is good too and has replaceable cutters. It is a real bummer SOG screwed up the Power Access like that. It's not hard to fix and it is worth it but you shouldn't have too. I just finished modding my Powerlock. I will show that in an upcoming video. I use it much more now.

Not always but in general I like them more. They are also easier to break. I have never broke a Gerber or a Leatherman but have broke more than a few SOG pliers. A few thoughts. SOG make the easiest pliers to use. They're fantastic. After that all downhill. I found it really hard to follow you're video as you seemed to be bouncing back and forth all over the place. SOG need to look at the Surge and re_engineer it. Same set up with compound pliers. Is it that hard? Ditto the Wave. The other thing SOG needs to do is make these tools in the US. If I had the tools of a Surge in a tool I could flick open like a SOG I'd pay the surge price. SOG are a fart in a blender as far as a brand is concerned.
