SOG PowerAccess A Shockingly Great Multitool!

@@hvacbudget8600 it's smaller than a juice and the scissors suck but still I'm happy with mine it's great for around the house use and doesn't drag my sweatpants down like some tools do.

mine sucked. i used a bit in the end like your supposed to on a not very tight screw and bent the frame. got my Leatherman skeletool out and got the screw no problem. I've had nothing but issues with sog products they're cheaply made. even the sog terminus xr i got broke the lock springs a month in and I had to rig benchmade springs in it as sog doesn't sale replacement springs. its a shame because the compound lavage and the plier heads themselves are great.

I love my PowerAccess Deluxe, which is very similar to this one. I also love my PowerLock. They _almost_ beat my other tools for EDC. The only reason why my Super Tool 300 and Swiss Tool are still top for EDC is because of how super-tough they are, the least likely to break even under tough use. Honestly if the PowerAccess Deluxe's handles and implements were slightly beefier, it might be the king of EDC. I will say in its defense that the quality defects that some other reviews have identified (such as failed locks) are not present on mine. I would love to see a next generation of it that eliminates that certain spot in the frame where a thin bridge of metal is at risk of cracking. To my mind, make the handles wider, widen that spot to eliminate its fragility, and let the blades be taller by the same token. That would be next-level. If anyone is on the fence about buying a SOG, I would say go for it.

this thing lives in my pants coin pocket for years now, had to rearrange the tools (swap the sides) because of constant use the knife had its back locking edge grinded a little so it was not secure when opened. After I switch the sides I have no problems and can use the knife again. Pliers are top notch, over all I really like it. On the fence of buying another one, I am looking at the deluxe as well, but not sure if its good for EDC, I got the Power Access Assist, but its too big and heavy for me to EDC, it can be carried on belt but I only used it at work.

I have the Power Access Deluxe, and find it to be very good. I alternate it with a LM Surge, and really enjoy using both of them. The Surge is a mighty tool, but the price and great EDC functionality of the Power Access for my work makes it a very attractive proposition.

anytime i need the best grip i’ll always pull out a SOG powerlock. just the gear system pliers are so smooth and force multiplying, better than many stand alone pliers in many cases

I have Sogs, Gerbers, Leathermans, and other brands of multitools. The Sogs are good but my favorite is the Victorinox with the rachet and bits. I use this everyday. It's the best EDC I have found at least for my needs. Very sturdy, built well, no play in the joints. The sheath is not the best. I have had to replaced it a couple of times now, but I don't leave home without one. If anyone has a better rig let me know. Thanks

@Hvac Budget I have two different models. One is the Swiss Tool X Plus Ratchet. 38 functions. The other is the Swiss Tool Spirit X Plus Ratchet. 36 functions. I really like them both. I replaced the bits I don't use often with ones I do. The sheaths they come with wear out quickly. The clasps are velcro, and they do not last. The leather sheath wears better than the "practical pouch," but again the velcro clasps rot. They cost 179.99 US now. I bought both mine several years ago. I think they are great and would pay the price asked. I also EDC a Kershaw 1660 leak for quick cuts like opening boxes, mail, and other small needs. Did this help?

I love multi tools. But I can’t stand (they all do it lol) when they give you a bit adapter/ holder. With the ability to use 1/4 inch bits. And then have the audacity to waste space with screwdrivers on the limited space instead of other options

SOG could have replaced some of the redundant tools duplicated on their bit kit with a pair of scissors, an extension bit kit driver, a corkscrew, etc. I also find their locking mechanism stiff and not very refined compared to my Leatherman Surge. But the Power Access Deluxe is a much greater advancement than their 30 year old Paratool. I have that, and it feels like a toy. The plier head folds down 90° from the open position, so when you need to clamp onto something, the plier head folds when you don't want to. There is no outboard tool kit, no locking mechanism, so you have to fold up the tool to keep the knife and other tools from folding on your fingers. Overall, the PowerAcces Deluxe shows casting marks and unrefined surface while the Surge is clean and well engineered. SOG has come a long ways in 30 years, but it still falls below Leatherman standards.

I have the retired SOG Paratool, the pliers are very decent except I can't always pull out a single strand of arm or facial hair. A lot of the time it actually cuts and/ or tears the strand in half verses pulling the whole strand out at once. Its just a test I do with all my pliers. The other day, I needed my pliers to unravel a spool of thread. It thread was so fine I could grasp it with my short fingernails. I had my Leatherman Free P2 handy fortunately. Precise pliers are very handy in "hair pin" situations. I'm not bashing the Paratool. All of its implements are practical and very functional.

Somehow I’m the knife guy at work and at family. All because I used to carry a kershaw. So now every birthday and Christmas I get at least a couple knifes. Last Christmas I got this one and o already had a Victorinox and this one I got a leatherman wave plus. I can say generelly speaking that the leatherman and Victorinox feel better but checking prices if I had to buy one myself I would get this one. It is one I would feel comfortable carrying around as my edc or in my truck.

I hate pocket clips on heavy multitools. They are heavy so, you do not want it in your pocket. Even in a belt sheath it is a heavy weight on your belt. Best is the Victorinox Swisstool Spirit, 210 grams, and very good tools, try it out !

The PowerPint is about half the size of the PowerAccess. The PowerPint will be much lighter and more pocketable but if you do more difficult plier task the longer handles of the PowerAccess will be nicer. Off the two I use the PowerPint more.

SOG did poke fun at it when a few commenters noticed the 2022 lineup does not have so many logos. Likely, the new VP of Brand, Jonathon Wegner, worked with the design team to remove them.
