The SOG PowerAssist is a successful attempt to integrate the abilities of assisted folding knives into a multitool. I was particularly surprised by the high sharpness of the serrations. This tool is a good option for those who cannot or will not carry a separate folding knife in addition to their multitool. This multitool is of higher quality than some of the other SOG MTs like the PowerPlay. It approaches the quality of a Leatherman multitool, but at $53 (currently) it is a lot more affordable than many Leathermans have become.

I replaced the V cutter on my PowerAssist with a wood saw from SOG. Easy peasy to do. Though I was only able to get the wood saw in silver where I'm from, and the PowerAssist obviously is black. But it doesn't bother me.

I replaced the V cutter on my PowerAssist with a pair of scissors, can send you a pic if you wish (I put black scissors on my otherwise silver multitool) and it works fine, they definitely should have just sold it that way to begin with. I should say however, that you'll have to sacrifice an additional fold-out tool on the PowerAssist, because the scissors require two slots: one for the actual scissors, and one for the small piece that the scissor spring acts against. Apparently on the PowerLock, there is a spacer that comes in the tool from the factory, so if you remove that spacer, you'll have room for the scissor addition without sacrificing anything. The PowerAssist doesn't have that spacer, so I sacrificed one of the three flat screwdrivers.

Got 10 year old version (More or less). No OHO, but the long needle nose and awl are great. Time for a upgrade. Always quality videos from you!

I like SOGs, their build quality is very very nice. But, I cannot EDC really any of them. The Leatherman Wave seems to me to just about be perfect, except for their scissors. I have this SOG and a few of their other models that I was testing out before settling in on the Wave (black oxide coating). I wish there was a way to get the Juice scissors into the Wave. If that could be interchangeable like SOGs, I would be ecstatic. But it's not happening, so I have to carry a real folding scissors to work well enough

I’ve had no luck with Leatherman scissors. I’ve had at least 6 Leatherman tools big and small, old and new, with scissors and none of them work right. Never had that problem with Victorinox though.

great review as always bro. i want to get. new multi tool to replace my rev. not sure yet what i want to go with.. i like this one but im not the biggest fan of assisted blades

My issue with the "compound leverage" feature is how wide it makes the plier handles to grip anything bigger than a 1/4" nut. I have smaller hands and it makes the pliers a two-handed affair about half the time. I have the paladin version (pt-540) and they sit in my junk drawer most of the time. My EDC multi-tool is the victorinox Swiss spirit and I love it. Have others that are nice (gerber mp-400, leatherman crunch and skeletool, and a pair of 3.peaks locking pliers). Definitely serve a purpose, but if I could only carry one, it would be the swisstool.

This looks like a new model. My power assist is missing the v cut and a proper Phil's head. and my black finish likes to get on my hands.

It sounds like yours is the EOD Model that has 13 tools.

WeAllJuggleKnives took me a while to find out it was a C4 punch and not an unfinished Philips head. I thought I got a manufactured dud. Feel like a dope. I didn't look for that one specifically, got it on ebay for a steal. No description no nothing. I never knew there were two separate models...

I kinda want one. I don't carry a multitool because I use my blade a lot. This would fix that. it needs a pocket clip, though.

I highly recommend people not to buy SOG gear There steel is brittle and the engineering fo their products is pure junk. Also, there warranty department is horrific. I've had to send back about 5 usually got back another model, not the same one sent. My last replacement was lost by them and they played the well do you have a tracking number even though their product specialist Amanda replied to me that a new one was being sent. Nothing came its been a month. SOG gear is pure junk. A lot of KZbinrs are sent thousands of dollars of gear to pretty much do advertising for companies.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with their customer service. The thing about SOG is that some of their items are made in China, others Taiwan, others Japan, and still others in the USA, so their quality varies a lot between products. They've never sent me any items to review though, so feel free to bash on them :D even tho I do enjoy some of their stuff.
