In this vlog, we visit Sohan DI Hatti, a sweet shop in the bylanes of Namak Mandi, not too far from the Golden Temple, that opened 65 years ago as a dairy stall. Whilst they continue to sell milk, yoghurt, paneer, and a super-delicious, thick Punjabi lassi, it is the pure desi ghee sweets sold here, made to traditional recipes that makes Sohan Di Hatti a must visit to satisfy a sweet tooth craving. We catch up with the third and fourth generation of this old Amritsar enterprise and also taste a variety of mithai.
If you love your sweets, this is a must-watch. Enjoy and don’t forget to like, share and subscribe to our second channel #kripalamanna to stay tuned for more from our Amritsar food tour.

The sweet is called “ Chena Murki “ in Bengal and not “ Murgi” as the gentleman mentioned 😀 A really yummy traditional sugary treat made by boiling pieces of paneer cubes in sugar syrup till the sugar starts to crystallise and coats the paneer. Can be made at home and stored. It derives its name from “ Khoi Murki “ which are tiny , sweet sugar coated roundels of popped rice or Khoi . P. S. Your friends chef Abhijit Saha and Shubhankar Dhar can surely throw more light on this

One thing we can notice is many of North Indian businesses are established post partitioned by those who moved from now Pakistan and this phenomenon is less evident in South India which obviously shows that partition has far more impact in North than South. Anyways, another great episode by Kripal Anna. Only he can articulate an entire episode on Lassi ( previous episode ) and keep us enthralled
