She arranges all of her own songs, and she is the master behind the orchestra also. There is a video of one of her songs that shows her back stage during a practice session where she is talking to the violin section and telling them how she wants them to come in. It’s all her. She is a master vocalist and arranger. She has he own music academy also. No matter the name of the song, it will not be what you think. It will be 10 times better.

Her story is also inspiring this little Gospel sing is in it for us and God ! Turned down the 3 Biggest recording companies in the world( Sony about 3 years ago)also reject all Asian companies.) she has about 30-40 masterpieces but all her Performance are Great- do not neglect her songs sung in Korean even without subtitles, you will discover you will get all the emotions of the song reguardless! Welcome to Sohyang's world. Good pronunciation. She has published 13 novels so far I believe. She is also a cancer survivor and quite an inspiration. Funny you say she reminds you of Mariah Carey, the media dubbed her the Korean Mariah Carey. Us fans though we call Sohyang herself as there is no one else quite like her. Yes she has been compared to both Whitney and Celine. She has covered some of their songs. Oh, this was gentle as to her range. It is insane also. I have heard her sing live up to an A6, and she is said to have a range up to a D7. In the sound DREAM at the DMC festival, she goes up to a mixed D6 at the end and it’s live. Her live shows are like a studio recording. She does not make mistakes.

Correction: At the DMC Festival, she sustains D6 in head voice. The one you're referring to is from the year before where she hit a mixed C#6 in a run and D6 in headvoice.

That is just a squeak so why bother? But her 5th and 6th octave voice is the best in the world. Period. So no, her range is not limited. You'll see when you listen to enough of her performances which are about 99% LIVE!

Hold on to your seat. Her range while knock you out. This is the best song to start with because it shows the power and resonance of her full chest voice belting with 14 G5s. That last G5 was mixed. This was my first introduction to her. There are many live videos of her. She does not however have any of her own social media but has a good fan base that posts her work.

We all wonder if Sohyang is human or from another planet. Current odds are that she’s from another planet, with an outside chance she’s actually an angel come down from Heaven. 😇 We have never heard anyone sing like her, or be able to hold an audience in the palm of her hand until she lets them go. Her voice is, as one person described it, like liquid gold. Perfection in clarity and pitch, and she doesn’t fade in the upper octaves, which is startling when you hear her hit those 5th and 6th octave notes with such _POWER_ it actually gives everyone goose bumps-and makes us bald guys’ hair stand on end! As she says, her voice “is from God.” She does all the musical arrangements herself, with the input of her in-law family and musical assistants, teaches vocal technique at a South Korean university and speaks five languages: Korean, English, French, Vietnamese and Chinese, as well as reading Greek! Let me catch my breath. OK. She is a cancer survivor from uterine cancer at the age of 20, just after getting married, and states very plainly that God saved her life due to the prayers of her church. But this left her without the ability to have children so she decided to dedicate her life to being a Contemporary Christian Gospel singer and has refused recording contracts from the biggest corporations in the world. She only wants to sing for charities, churches and while doing missionary work, to strengthen those suffering through difficult times. David Foster, Josh Groban, Michael Bolton and others have all eagerly worked with her when they were in Asia. She contracted hepatitis B from a blood transfusion during her cancer surgery and it clings to her to this day. Because of this she is prone to catching pneumonia but has sang perfectly while suffering from it in her live performance of “You Raise Me Up” before Shane Filan of Westlife on South Korean TV: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpbCfWylm82Iqpo She has asked those who love her singing to pray that God keep pneumonia away from her, she has suffered from it on so many occasions. Imagine how she must feel with this coronavirus floating around everywhere! She was about 37 when she sang this version of “Arirang Alone”, their unofficial national anthem based on a 600 year old folk song expressing their desire to reunify north and south: vimeo.com/308253527 After being sick with pneumonia eight times from 2016 through to 2020, and considering giving up singing altogether, she decided to enter a televised singing contest called “King of the Masked Singers” in 2017 and won six consecutive times, which has catapulted her into international attention from the performances being posted on KZbin. Whitney Houston’s former manager saw her on KZbin and showed her to Oprah Winfrey, who brought her to David Foster’s attention. Foster then contacted Sohyang and went to Japan in order to have her perform eight concerts with him at Tokyo’s famous Blue Note Club in late-2018. Angelina is accompanied on piano by Rob Christie, 2x Grammy winner and Studio Director for Republic Records. What an amazing vote of confidence for her arrangement. That's too funny. I'm glad to report that I'm alive and well and the marriage is strong! Although I got some resistance today when I told her to cook dinner and vacuum the floors. Kidding. Given what you said about your wife and that you are still kept after the summer from last year, I have to assume that she is a good sport and can handle your sense of humor without trouble, but I do understand how the summer heat can sap one's spirit. Listening to Sohyang's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" was a wise decision. It can definitely refresh your depressed spirit and recharge your energy. It's true Sohyang's voice doesn't lower the room temperature, but it can help you forget your physical irritations by refocusing your mind on her vocal magic. I agree with your feeling on the song in its original form. The message in the lyrics is wonderful and the melody soothing but it doesn't offer any dynamic to keep the listener's attention if not emotionally engaged. In that case, it becomes an effective lullaby. However, Sohyang's rendition carries no such concern. As a gospel singer, Sohyang knows how to commit your interest for the vocal journey she takes you along. The composition carries specific purpose and the audience is meant to engage their emotion in the ride. Over the years, Sohyang has performed many fantastic covers of some classics in English. This performance is by no means an exception, although a great example of Sohyang's vocal and musical expertise. If you do start your collection of "songs you don't like but persuaded to enjoy by the artist", you may find many candidates from Sohyang based on her amazing talent. As for Sohyang's range, some would debate how high or low her voice can go, but it really is not the point, isn't it? Otherwise, we all can go listening to the dolphin squealing for fun :-) but we listen to people sing instead. Enjoyed your reaction and some accurate observation such as Sohyang's vocal control, precision and dynamic. Sohyang is my favorite singer if you can't already tell. When Paul Simon got the Polar Music Prize back in 2012 The Swedish sister duo First Aid Kit performed "America" in front of Mr Paul Simon. I love her. So much talent in the East like SoHyang, Diana Ankudinova, Daneliya Tuleshova, Morissette Amon, Katrina Velarde, Dimash...could go on and on. We don't get exposed as much in the West as corporations control everything but we live in a new era and we stop using push technology as much. Old media pushes what they want on the people....the great thing about KZbin (the internet in general) is the ability to pull what you want and not sit around and get something pushed at you...they try, but if you want to find out what's out there you can certainly accomplish this today (before we get censored further). This song was meant to be sung this way, with raw emotions and passion pouring out of your soul. When I first saw this video, my jaw dropped to the floor. She's a truly gifted singer with a voice from above. Anyway, 'You Raise Me Up' is another boring song that she completely rewrote and turned into a masterpiece. That song is corny and boring and I just couldn't stand it until I heard her version. You'll be shocked by what SoHayng can do with a song.

Heavy metal and punk rock can have screaming, but this has none. There is belting, which is a completely different thing. Perhaps you don't like high belting -its high because Sohayng's voice is naturally high. You could say "I don't like high belting" which would be fair enough, likes are subjective but calling this screaming is rather insulting to the artist.

Hey Olaf. I get it. I wasn't over the top for Mariah for that very reason. For some reason though, she just came off as so much more sincere to me. I appreciated her voice more. Sohyang is a gospel (black church style) and contemporary christian music (CCM) singer. You will often see dominant vocals from her. Also her performances on the TV show Immortal Songs are pretty over the top since it's a friendly singing competition among professional singers.
