Prime Whitney had problems with having a healthy mix above E5. Low notes were mediocre but at least being somewhat better than SoHyang's low notes. Her headvoice slightly edges SoHyang on the 5th octave by having better dynamics but at the 6th octave she starts getting shrill. She has some inconsistent good notes at the 6th octave but they pale in comparison to SoHyang's because she mastered her headvoice at D6/Eb6 while still being able to support F6's. The only one who should be wiping the floor is you for being so discreditable towards an excellent vocalist like SoHyang. Oh yah, you can ask Celine to wipe the floor with you because she is in no way better than SoHyang/Whitney/Mariah. She's good but she isn't the excellent let alone being the greatest.

Her transition into the high notes are not smooth and are in your face... after she hit all of those high notes she starts to get tired which makes the rest of the performance not good because she have problems breathing. Witney's high notes are effortlessly and are one in a million... Witney's voice can fill and arena because her enunciation is flawless while with so hyang you have problems hearing what she is saying. Witney is an around vocalist not just a high note singer.... Witney can do 5 songs after another while still maintaining her strong vocal... While so hyang strains and feel tired after one.

SoHyang's songs compared to Whitney's are more demanding in terms of vocal endurance and her voice is overly resilient enough to withstand singing them consistently so both of them are actually excellent in terms of endurance. SoHyang's enunciation is perfectly fine I don't get why people attack her diction when most people can actually understand what she's saying, she literally phrased a G#5/Bb5 in all of her Upon this rock/Dream songs and you can literally understand it and if you want to take diction into account, judge her Korean diction since that's her first language. Her English songs are literally understandable, could be your ears? Last I heard SoHyang strain was when she was sick because of the weather in Korea and she was just getting over pneumonia and you can barely spot her straining even in that condition lol. If you analyse SoHyang at her best, strain doesn't even exist all you can hear is beautiful support and resonance. C#6(Headvoice) to B5/Bb5(mixed voice) without audible crack proves her unbelievably connected vocal chords. Stay pressed.

Don't compare Sohayng with others. It's just a matter of taste. On top of the techniques, she got her own, unique sensitivity, as shown in angelic voice tones and styles in traditonal korean songs. She can't sing with dancing like Beyonce, but Beyonce can't sing like her as well. It can sound screamish in high notes, which is a talking point among koreans. But people who heard her performance in concert hall say that it sounds beautiful, not screamish at all.

+ANTI Wanna go *really* technical? Mariah Carey is *overrated*. She lowers her larynx and forces her lower notes below E3 in her prime (F3/F#3) now. Back in her prime, she was *really inconsistent*. She's had some perfect performances but she could also have some 'failed' ones. She's inconsistent with her belts above Eb5/E5, as she tries to pull more chest for 'power' instead of allowing her natural resonators to come into play. Her mixed voice back in 1990-1992 was very chestyx hence the vocal strain she has had due to a mixture of high larynx/squeezing/throat tension as well as her vocal cord nodules. She was better in 1993-1996, but was still really inconsistent (as she's had some performances that she sounded like winded up/sick). Her real, main problem is with her breath support, as it is always limited since from the beginning. She would squeeze notes instead of allowing her support muscles to come into play. She would instead close her throat sometimes to push the notes out rather than allowing her voice to enter the 'mask cavities.' Her head voice is underdeveloped, she's never fully utilized them. Sohyang doesn't really have these problems, as she has far more developed mixed voice compared to Mariah as well as her head voice. The only thing Mariah has over Sohyang are her developed lower register, more developed (rounder) middle register and musicianship (I will not go into tone since it's *subjective* and preference varies from person to person) while Sohyang has the upper hand on her in terms of other parts of her voice (technically speaking).

Can I just say this as a hardcore Sohyang stan and seeing that many people get the impression that we only like her for her high notes. We like her partially because of her high notes but also because of her character (she is very humble), her songs (her performances from begin again are nice although they do not have as many highs) and for her life story (she had cancer and she has been through a lot considering she doesn't have a company in an industry that is very harsh). Honestly, if we only liked her high notes, the videos of her performing 'I believe I can fly', 'Mona Lisa' and 'Hero' would have some of the highest especially considering the amount of belting in them.
