A lot of any train drivers job is the knowledge of not just how to do the job but what to do with the trains when they won't move (no one comes out to you sitting between stations, YOU have to get the train moving even if it's the train behind pushing you out) and what to do when the signalling system doesn't work, you de-rail for instance and foul say the Down Main out of Euston where trains stonk along at 110mph! You are paid for what you know as much as for what you do!

@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus

It takes you to the Jubilee Line, Northbound. It was the link line constructed in the 1930s so the Bakerloo could take over the Stanmore line from the Metropolitan. It stayed in regular use until May 1979 when the Jubilee opened. This is now the only Underground connection to the Bakerloo Line (it does of course connection with National Rail at Queens Park) used for stock moves and engineering trains.

When you leave the platform what are the sky blue markers for on the left numbered 1to 7?
@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus 3 жыл бұрын
They are car markers. If the emergency alarm goes off as you leave the station, if you can stop before the 7 car marker, then part of the train is still in the station. If not, continue to the next station to sort things out rather than stop in the tunnel.

how are the points named? which bit is alpha, bravo etc
@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus 4 жыл бұрын
All points are numbered on a line. A cross over from one line to another has two ends to it, A and B (in the phonetic alpabet, Alpha and Bravo), if there is a problem with them the part that isn't working, it can be narrowed down before the engineers get there to fix it, so saving time. Single lead points (say, into a siding) will only have one end to them (Alpha).....

Basically, think of a SPAD as the train equivalent of passing a red at an intersection. It’s dangerous and could get you into trouble. A multi-spaded signal is one that has a past history of being a ‘S’ignal ‘P’assed ‘A’t ‘D’anger (red).

Idk, but I'm imagining late 90's, early 2000's.I may be wrong, but I'm imagining between 99-2001. Notice, the Yellow pages ad on the journey planner at 2:37. Search tube map posters 1999. The danger signs at the ends of platforms also. I think these are still in use but the modern ones have thinner signs. The train is refurbished as 2:48 shows but has the old train number display on it's window. Also Oxford Circus looks better.

I also don't know, as the person who gave me this DVD can't remember when it was issued to him! The dates Pete S. suggest's tie in with when the driver concerned was working on this line so all you eagle eyed views can try and spot any clues that will give away the date. As an ex B.R man ..Why are your signals so close together
@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus 4 жыл бұрын
Basic signalling rules are the same, the more signals you have the closer the trains run together and so you can run a better headway service. The Barking-Gospel Oak line has had more signals added in order to improve the headway. Plus the Bakerloo still has some older LT signalling where there are more home signals on approach to stations, some of which are speed controlled, if a train is ahead and you slow down, the first one or two will clear to get you closer so again improving the headways. The Southern has a lot of signalling as you get closer to Waterloo as did the old Great Eastern lines to Gidea Park, again for the same reasons, to get more trains running.
@parkandrideme
@parkandrideme 4 жыл бұрын
@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus I understand that .But they look so close you couldn't get a train between them . Thanks anyway
@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus 4 жыл бұрын
@@parkandrideme They sound like the home signals leading up to a station. As the train in the platform moves off the first home signal clears allowing you to start moving forward, as the departing train moves further away so more home signals clear and you can keep moving if you have slowed your train down enough. If there was only one home signal you would have to wait far outside the platform until the train in front had totally cleared the platform before you could move forward. I hope this makes sense, diagrams help but we have only the written word here.....

Soi Buakhao sounds about right from what I remember.... multiple homes and sometimes even a “platform policeman” to maximise line capacity, maybe while this lockdown is on I will dig out the ring binder that’s in my attic with all the written course work from Guard and Motors and refresh my memory something at the back of my mind is ringing a bell about suffix letters on multiple home signals... but it’s been over 30 years.... could still drive a 72 tho 😁 sound of the driver working the TBC and those bloody tones from train radio brought back a lot of memories.... along with that bloody noisy rheo brake.
