Just received my soil test results on the app. I have to say this has been so easy and so nice and organized to complete this. Wish I had done this sooner. They spell out all the information on where your soil should be and if it is high or low. If anyone is on the fence about doing a soil test just do it. Awesome information and product.

So True about the mowing pattern in the front I vary but the back I like to Go north to south it just looks nice out the back window. But ruts definitely from walking the mow the same direction!!! I vary sometimes in back but not as consistently.

County extension still an awesome option for soil testing. I dropped off my dirt, and walked out with about 100 pages of locality-specific academic research articles. And the results were easily interpretable based on what you’ve taught us about NPK and reading bag labels. Great service from the universities!

Oh my goodness, I’m so glad I watched till the end! I came to see the soil test stuff but what a cool bonus! All videos I’ve seen of Israel look like a bus tour with a gaggle of folks in Disney mode. What a great spot by the Sea of Galilee. I have a whole new vision to use in my head now when reading the Word. Glad you had a nice trip. We went to Jordan a few years back and got to the Dead Sea but it was sooo hot. Thanks again for sharing. Waiting on my test kit to come in the mail. My wife and I just got back from visiting her parents in Australia, for 3 weeks. Came Wednesday, and it wasn't too cold, and the next few days it was almost in the 60's, so I was really hoping that March would be the month that the lawn comes out of dormancy... it snowed today, and is still snowing... ugh.

Having taken back my lawn from the Gardener at the start of June, I began following the LCN advice focusing in on the mow, irrigation and nutrients. Things are looking up after making adjustments on all 3 fronts. I fed on 6/24 the prescribed nutrients and the YM calendar says to repeat in a month. Just got soil test results back and have to say I am impressed! Great turn-around time and value based on decades of experience working with analytical labs. The results are as expected: low NPK as gardener was not staying on top; micronutrients are all good but Fe and Mg high and sulfur low which is characteristic for our geology. The recommendation received is for starter ferts, both liquid and granular and more Micro Green. My question is this: is this in addition to or in lieu of the program in the YM App calendar? In addition, does the App integrate and incorporate soil test results, adjusting nutrient recommendations going forward or do I need to sort this out on my own?

What a fantastic video on so many levels, Allyn. The content was so deep that you could have probably divided it into 3. One on the soil test, one on the TimeCutter, and one on the Grasses and weeds of Israel. Our church went to Israel last year. Highly recommended. I think our hotel on the Sea of Galilee was better, because we didn't have weeds and great Bermuda turf!! :) Keep up the great content. It is no wonder that you have 283k subscribers. Funny I just got my soil results back today. N= 9.04 P= 2.29 K= 11.07 Mn & Zn low, pH= 5.04 Recommend a shot of 16-16-16 and of course micros which I'll be doing all season with Next. I need to bump the pH up of course, lots of clay around my parts.

If I am too handicapped to walk as fast as is supposed to be during a fertilizing, say at 5.0., can I walk half as fast and place it on a 2.5 drop rate? Shouldn't you use some kind of gloves when handling your soil prior to testing? If I'm not mistaken the oils and sweat from your hands transfers to the dirt and can effect the levels of the micronutrients due to the nutrients that come out in your sweat? At least that was always my understanding.

I’m a little confused as to why we need to take different soil sample from across the yard. How does that account for microclimates or differences in soil or treatment? For example if I have an area that gets a lot of hat morning and a son that is right next to the driveway and the sidewalk the large blue spruce tree, won’t the nutritional analysis be different in that spot compared to my shady spot in the front yard that is directly under a magnolia tree that has lots of different types of yard debris compared to the Bluespruce? What about areas along the driveway that gets much more compaction or have salt from deicing in the winter? I’m not knocking the methodology, I am just trying to understand how that works, because in my mind taking these samples from different places and then mixing up the soil will dilute everything and I don’t understand how that would address nutritional deficiencies for these microclimates.

Brian P from reading my local county extension papers on the subject. If you have areas that are vastly different as you described you should submit separate samples for each area. I.e. front lawn & back yard. The lawn in the video by the pond is generally all the same. 1 sample might be fine there. Whether you are submitting one sample or multiple samples from different areas of your yard, you still need to take several collections from around that area, mix them together and take a scoop of that to send off. My county extension offers sample analysis for $7/box
