Great video. Speaking as somewhat of an 'old boy', I am always seeking better ways of moving, to extend my time in karate. When I was in my 30's I was already looking at how the older generation Sensei such as Kanazawa & Stan Schmit (Shoto), Yamaguchi Sensei (Goju), Suzuki (Wado), moved. One thing they all aimed at was smooth & tension free. Many of us are guilty of stiff karate & need to relax our minds and our bodies. Stiff = slower & a waste of energy. By contrast Inoue Sensei is as smooth as silk. His movement looks effortless but I think it's safe to say that he has worked hard to make it look so easy. The trick is to know where to direct your energies when you are training. IMHO physical power s not the answer. Good technique is.

Absolutely correct. Even my 66-years-old Sensei (and former WKF World referee) was impressed of how Soke Inoue moves... and decided to adopt in our dojo many of his teachings about how to avoid stiffness and how to explain the concept of Kime to beginners.

With all respect to Master Inoue Yoshimi, he has just forgot to mention the level to be required to counter the attacki.e. beginner- slow motion, intermediate - medium speed and advanced level in one movement, only. Thank you for posting these videos!😉 Would there be English version? I really enjoy him. Does he address dealing with brawlers, where overhand rights and haymakers, some are very fast and very powerful. I know of a fellow in his 40's that hit a 70# heavy bag sending it up about flush with the rafters holding it. Very fast, very powerful. Same fellow in his 40's after a fifth of liquor curled a 110# barbell. Understand, 110#'s is awesome, but balancing a 5' barbell with 110#'s?? Then he pressed it one handed over his head before he dropped it. 😉, Lucky the floors had old time 2 x 12's from the 50's. I mention that as the lumber then often had tighter grain and other qualities. Fast as well. He was much more powerful than he looked, although he was still bigger than most. I've seen big bodybuilders nowhere near his capability. Yes they send a flurry, just the mass of big arms would hurt smaller guys, but when there's speed behind it, very powerful kime. I've seen old time loggers, up in 70's rock solid muscle. Pardon me a chain reaction occurred. Where does he get into evasive footwork? All styles have their way of doing things, so I ask.

IMO it is not that difficult to be a whip, ie, relaxed and fast (don't forget kime). A lot has to do with being self-conscious which is more of a problem in the west (think conformity vs individualism). Feeling somewhat separated from the group leads to the F or F instinct and we tighten up. In the East, they harbor inclusiveness to the point that this psychological reaction is muted and students' progress is more in step with the teaching. Ok. Gotta get me more of this pot, lol
