Sokolov is the greatest pianist actually alive ! Fabulous, like all the Bach, Rameau, Couperin you have posted. What a marvel ! Thanks and thanks a lot !

i agree. I like old pianists much better, but Sokolov and Pogorelic are right there with others gigants (in my opinion). Beautiful, peaceful, very sophisticated...

Sokolov has always a very personal interpretation of pieces. Remember that there is not one universal way to play a complex classical composition. I do not believe in original interpretations. Music and art will always evolve - also in their interpretation- classical music is no different in this, although it is more bound to a written score. Only great performers take risks. What a great pianist Sokolov is! Cant wait to hear him live again.

Watch out for too much of evolution of music! Quite often we can hear interpretations of originals so far removed from the original idea- it’s hard to recognize the original! Fortissimo can be played differently, but it’s still ff ( fortissimo)!

What is "schlaff" in English ? Third movement - too "schlaff". He misunderstands Schubert.
@DoctorClarinet10 жыл бұрын
flaccid. I agree. He says Glen Gould is one of his respected forebears, and this is typical Gould, concentration on idiosyncratic 'pianistic' interpretation of phrases, and Schubert is lost. Gould of course was a genius.

@@DoctorClarinet Diese Ansicht teile ich nicht. In Wien empfindet man das anders. Es ist wunderbar musiziert, empfindsam und brilliant gespielt. Kennen Sie Brendels Einspielung ?

@@oenolf yey, I agree! Schlaff in German means placid, very quiet. Sokolov’s interpretation is exactly that, no more -no less. These guys critique is self-serving, nothing else.

Amin Jakfar, I strongly disagree with you! Sokolov isn't even in my top list! Zimerman, Grimaud and Kissin are much better, IMHO. I heard this sonata D 959 and D 960 in concert with Krystian Zimerman on June 19, 2015. He played it much different and very convincing! :D I even like Christoph Eschenbach (1974) and Alfred Brendel better with this Schubert sonata! :D

+musizaful Your statement is so ridiculous that I cannot take it serious! :P You're insulting two of the widely respected finest pianist of today Zimerman and Kissin (implying they're second class)! :( Unlike you I said it's my opinion! When I wrote Sokolov isn't even in my top ten pianists this doesn't mean Sokolov isn't first class! He is fist class but simply not my taste. (As you seem not to like Zimerman and Kissin - but stating they are second class what is by no means justified! :P

***** You're not able to discuss in a civilized manner! Of course it's your OPINION - the right word for it. But being born to pianists doesn't qualify you to judge who is a GREAT pianist! xD Of course ALL pianists mentioned ARE great pianists. For me Zimerman is the best living pianist followed by Grimaud and Kissin. I simply don't like Sokolov that much, That's all and there is nothing wrong with it. You may still have the opinion Sokolov is the best living pianist. There is nothing wrong with it ... A matter of taste (= opinion)! :D

Amir Motahari That's just your opinion. With much f-words not even eloquent. I expressed my opinion and I have NO reason at all to change it! Zimerman, Grimaud and Kissin for me are at ALL composers better than Sokolov! :P

well your opinion is yours mine is mine the point is your opinion happens to be nonsense and that is a fact not opinion! one should be deaf to prefer Grimaud to Sokolov, check your ears!
