Fausto Cleva gives her plenty of generous slow tempi in the beginning to build vocally and dramatically. This aria can "kill you" at the last act, if you don't have this kind of "breathing room" that Cleva gives. Tebaldi is incredible, as always. Her superb interpretation and collaboration with the orchestra creates an authentic dramatic moment instead of strained, stressed singing heard often these days ...

Toscanini said she had the voice of an angel. This aria is beautiful but it's from an early effort of Puccini who chose to put to song one of the dumbest stories ever which, obviously , became one of the dumbest operas ever by story. But the music works. So well And his last opera takes up the same location -- America -- and is in my opinion one of the most brilliant but underestimated operas in the canon, La Fancuilla del West. Tebaldi can also be heard in the role of Mini in this opera in the 1958 Met production if you search KZbin. Someday, this work will come into its own. I hope that San Francisco Opera would adopt it as their own and perform it more often, since it's set here.

Bella interpretazione, peccato che gli acuti già a 37 anni,cominciassero a perdere di smalto e timbratura!!! Purtroppo un problema che negli anni diverrà sempre più evidente fino ad emissioni fisse e spesso fuori tono!!!!! Ma non si può aver tutto, ed ogni cantante ha i propri difetti: non esiste la Perfezione!!!
