It’s kind of a wild goose chase, treating the symptoms rather then the problem

The symptoms are the problem. SRM answers the most pressing symptom, that of rising temperature. If the root cause, burning fossil fuels (?), didn’t cause negative symptoms, then we wouldn’t be having this discussion. And if stopping the burning of fossil fuels didn’t cause negative symptoms to society, then we would have quit burning them already. Everything we do has its benefits and harms. Sometimes the benefits are concentrated to the rich, which is what we call inequality. There is no point in treating the cause, if the symptoms will kill you. If you have been shot, you may want to lobby for stricter gun-laws or alert the authorities to catch the gunman, but you shouldn’t forget to treat your wound. Therefore it would be important to do both.
Sorry to say that there is no evidence that humans have the individual nor collective ability to voluntarily give up the daily conveniences we have taken for granted and rely upon. No evidence that countries will cooperate with each other versus fight over resources. The current size of the world economy is unsustainable. That said, I seriously doubt that the planet will be hospitable to another generation of 3% GDP growth or the doubling of the world economy.

Excellent and informative. Daniele Visioni also gave an excellent talk at Harvard which is worth watching to get deeper into the uncertainties and challenges in modelling SAI. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5uwZaGMr6umaLc
