According to the Quote Investigator website, there is no evidence that Winston Churchill ever said that "Americans will always do the right thing, only after they have tried everything else." This quote should probably be attributed to the Israeli diplomat Abba Eban (1915-2002).

Interesting topics and information, but have to say the format and style leaves a lot to be desired if ‘ communication’ is the goal ! Just my Aussie perspective maybe, but others seem to have similar issues Dan. Having said that, I do get though most of your discussions as the topics are important to say the least.

@@roo3515 What makes this program unique is that I am familiar with the science and solutions so this is a discussion, not an interview, though it obviously looks like that to quite a few viewers. Those who have listened to the program for 3+ years (it started on Clubhouse) understand this. Perhaps I should make i clear at the beginning of the program. But if you want a traditional interview program, there are many choices out there.

"Renewable" energy technologies such as wind and solar should properly be called "rebuildables," since wind turbines and solar panels only last for a few decades before they come to the ends of their useful lives and need to be thrown away, then replaced with new ones made using newly mined materials and fossil fuels. Regarding the sequestration of CO2 in underground pipelines, this can be a very dangerous technology; for more see the recent article entitled "The U.S. is expanding CO2 pipelines. One poisoned town wants you to know its story."

A practical approach to the oceans does require global cooperation. It involves the clean up of plastics & packaging material. There is this Dutch kid who has been cleaning up the Pacific Ocean plastics with his innovative Interceptor vessel & he is doing a remarkable job. It is a privately sponsored approach. The innovative vessels use vacuuming to remove floating debris & they bring it back to shore & separate out that which can be recycled. These vessels are made in Finland. Scandinavia is known for its innovative engineering of ships. The US, nowhere to be found. Anyway these vessels can be produced in different sizes. I'd like to see them tackle all oceans & seas, rivers & coastlines, harbors & eutrophied ponds. It is a lifelong job. Now some debris will remain in their tombs of the ocean. War planes, ships, debris that travels in via tsunami or floodwaters. Major large water pollutions rests mostly with China, India, & Indonesia.

The decay of uranium-238 and thorium-232 together contributes approximately 20 trillion watts to the Earth's total heat output. This radioactive decay accounts for about half of the total heat leaving the planet. - Where is this accounted for in Leon's charts?
@robertcartwright4374
@robertcartwright4374 Ай бұрын
Incoming solar radiation contributes about 173 petawatts, so perhaps interior heat was omitted because it is so minor? Heat from radioactive decay is about half of heat reaching the surface of the earth from the interior, but because solar insolation is so large, it's only a few hundredths of a percent of the total heat at the surface. It's definitely not half of the energy the earth radiates to space.

You’re making the argument that science has to be “interesting” to capture people’s’ attention. We’ve been conditioned to expect hyper-promotion of ideas, like commercials for a new product. @@EastWindCommunity1973 Leon Simons is doing a great job trying to explain a very complicated subject. The constant interjections with side trajectories is making Simons attempt at a presentation too difficult to follow. Lack of respect for the actual scientific researcher is the problem here - he is an expert in a very specific topic. The person hosting him needs to respect that more. Let the dude talk and explain what he needs to explain without constantly interrupting his line of thought. Hence our accelerating doom. Too much ego. OK now he mentions his "private funders" for Solar Radiation management - so that explains why he keeps drowning out what Leon Simons is trying to explain in detail.
