This is an excellent video. I live in Toronto Canada and we brought in Solar business to Pakistan about 8 yrs ago with the name SUN SOURCE POWER. We installed a Solar system on lots of tube wells, houses, petrol pumps, a small clinic, schools, on a fish farm etc. Unfortunately NO help from Govt. although tried my best. It was all at a private level that people got the solar system installed. I arranged a presentation for the 25 Megawatt system, 100 % financing (about $30 million) arranged but nothing happened. WE had no choice but to pack up and came back. I hope it increases awareness in more people and collectively they raise their voices. This is the only way that this bureaucracy will listen. Many thanks for such a useful video.

Absolutely on the point video for Net metering. Hats off Owais bhai for sharing the complete details. I was the first one to apply for Net metering in our area back in 2019. Took 3 months to complete the process since we payed the amount to the solar installer vendor. They got the process done themselves but the interesting part started after that. On the day of installation when connecting the system to the grid we found out that our transformer was malfunctioning (2 phases were running on same frequency) for God knows how long. IESCO ignored the issue and refused to fix the issue as it needed transformer repairing. Did numerous complaints to NEPRA, IESCO, PM portal but of no use. After 8 months we ended up paying 100k to the SDO for in lieu of transformer repairing and within 2 days they installed a new transformer. Unfortunately this is the cost we all pay for living in this country.

Absolutely true. As representative of solar company, we deeply suffer with net metering process, which reduce business bcoz if our netmetering is processed in 3-4 months only if we pay alot in descos, our client will need another 3-4 months to see actual benefits of solar, only thn he will tell his surroundings to install solar, this will take around 7 months to 1 years which is total loss to solar business. I recommend net metering process should be online.

Certain new policies by central government listed certain % of on grid plants in a state for financial assistance to state government electricity boards / distribution companies from central government. Suddenly everything has become smooth. Just have to apply online , every process goes smoothly. I dont even have to go anywhere !! The Installer just collected the forms and he uploded it online . Just installed a 3.3 kw mono perc for 1,30,000 inr( 3 lakh pkr) ( 1,80,000 - 50,000 central government subsidy ) . No pre physical inspection nothing . All inspections are done online . , the installer just uploaded the photos online , few days later the electricity department came and replaced the meter . Only one earth is needed as per regulations ? Here 4 separate earth is installed , ac ,dc, lightening arrester , mounting structure

I got solar system installed on my house in mid-fed 2021, and was unable to use for complete season because I opted for on-grid system only and my net-metering application got delayed a lot. Initially my solar company gave me timeline of 3 months for it but then after waiting for 5 months I got angry and started visiting there office regularly then they told me that my application has been rejected for some wrong data in file and now they have sent it again and this truth they didn't told me for a long time. Then finally my net-meter was installed in end of september after waiting for almost 8 months. Now, Alhamdulillah I am using net-metering for past 5 months 🙂

@anasmuhammad26832 жыл бұрын
@@AhsanRaahid I haven't heard or know of any such ratio. The generated units are first consumed in-house and excess units are sent into the grid. Peak-time units are not compensated and are counted separate so since the installation of green-meter I am mostly paying bill for the peak hour units. There is no limit ratio for off-peak units. We even used 100% of our generated units some months and paid for Peak-Hour units using bill credit (i.e. zero bill) Every month the remaining exported units, that we haven't used in the month, are counted and the bill-credit is given every 3 months and credit amount is around Rs. 9.5/KWh.

First the file went to desco which lingered for 2 weeks and after paying 5k the file moved to the inspection department. They visited our place and raised some 7 objections. We had to pay 20k and the inspector approved the file with no change in the system. Then the file got in Nepra and for 2 months the license wasn’t granted. When we approached someone in nepra they asked for 50k to get the license allowed. So we again paid that bribe. After approval from Nepra the file came back to iseco and they raised some objections with the fee submission and at that point I said enough and decided not to pay a single dime to these assholes. So they put the file to some cold storage. I made 4 complaints to the PM portal and no one helped. My father intervened behind my back and payed 25k to the guys and got the net meter installed in 3 days and paying another 10k to the lineman who installed the meter. The process took around 6 months to complete with around 200k as bribes so the actual cost of our 6kw system raised from 750k to 950k.

A single properly filled complaint on citizen portal/nepra could have done the trick. Disco's are time-bound though their own consumer manuals and SOPS.

@@yousaf.saleem citizen portal is a gimmick. It doesn’t work. I’ve around 17 complaints and not one got addressed. No one from nepra demanded any money but the guy we approached told us that licenses are pending for months and to get ahead in line 50k was the price and in peak summers it was either 35k of bill a month or 50k for the bribe. As far as descos sops are concerned trust me there is no such thing as professionalism there. The only sop or working manual is a nice stack of cash and your problem is solved.

@Syed Owais I am also an overseas Pakistani who moved back to pakistan. In terms of corruption “kharcha Paani” I would recommend if you look into PEEDA or EDA (in Islamabad) basically by using the complaint system within this Act I was able to dismiss WAPDA people who were looking to get bribe money. I have also used same process in other government departments so yes it’s difficult to get the application approval but if you see inefficiency in the system then this complaint process must be invoked. Also let me make it clear it is not same or equivalent to citizen portal. I wish citizen portal actually invoked PEEDA but sadly it doesn’t.

Just to add. IESCO buys solar units at 'half the price' of 'Off Peak' units. That is Rs. 9.48 per OP unit. After 3 months of green meter activation, on the 3rd bill, I got the credits. I paid the Peak-Hours units in the first 2 months. Advice from my experience in Bahria Town RWP: 1. Dont start running ACs 24/7 till your Zero bill comes. 2. The credits is Rupees will runout fast if power used during Peak-Hours (presumably 5pm-11pm). 3. IESCO will minus Off-Peak units from solar units monthly BUT will count/bill Peak-Hours units.

@@zob79 Like Owais bhai said. Its all bribe. Solar installer includes 'application' and green meter 'charges' in the overall cost. Green meter is most of the time short in the market so, in my case I had to go after installer. Application takes 2 days max if installer is willing. No need of NEPRA licensing for solar below 25kw. I wasnt expecting load shedding in BT. I think net metering hybrid is the way forward. Good luck!

I am a retired non- resident Pakistani just like you who has also returned to Pakistan after 35 years. Your post is excellent but I wish you should have also talked about the possible ways to install a solar which would be totally independent of the grid and which would help the user to get rid of DISCOS' monopoly and high electricity bills. I have also applied for net metering and hope to get my green meter soon. But I wish I did not have to rely on DISCOS.

For e.g Ground Realities of Net Metering 14:02 to 15:15 can be cut into a separate short clip. People tend to watch short videos rather than the long ones, you know better ofcourse. Great effort. Was waiting for your new vid on solar. I got my solar system installed 2 months ago and green meter was installed 20 days ago alhamdulilah. I think the latest initiative by the govt to waive off the license requirement of smaller capacity will reduce the process time but not the corruption element. Mine was handled by the solar company. You need to make another video on how the bill is calculated with green meter. The mechanism of offsetting units , peak hour and off peak hour setoff and optimised usage settings to maximize the benefits of the ongrid and hybrid systems.

I have 2 concerns about net metering, 1. how’d i know if a green meter and a regular consumer meter Units measuring / calculating method is same ? What if green meter is slower than the consumer meter, we will go in loss because green meter unit cost is already lower than what we are paying to DISCO ( inclusive of all taxes ) , 2nd the green meter is slow… ( whats the point in investing Rs 10 lacs and gaining nothing ) 2. Suppose my grid is producing 10kw at the moment. 2kw being consumed at my home, and disco system requirement is as low as 2kw of electricity, now 6kw of electricity is going waste. i am again going in loss, is there any way i can cash this electricity?

@@sunny56dx tilt angle must be consider to get this much production. Normally solar installaters dont consider this and just put PVs on 15-20. Degree to lower the winds impact so i believe that will be high number to expect.

In winter months we were doing between 450-500 units a month on a 6kw system and in February we already crossed 400 in 20 days and expecting around 700-800 units in March April May and June. In total we are looking at around around 8000 kwh this year and if that’s a 10kw system you can easily expect 13-14k units.

Note: Net metering can be done on ON Grid or also called Grid Tied system. We can't do net metering on OFF grid system. Moreover, Hybrid system is also On Grid or Grid Tied System with battery backup. So we can't say that for net metering Hybrid is required yet where there is a lot load shedding and you need to run load during load shedding then Hybrid is idea. While Grid Tied System is ideal where you don't face much load shedding and you don't need backup. Thanks
