I’ve had 4 flexible panels on my Sprinter for years with no problems, but it looks like you may be losing some effiiciency by shading the panel with the aluminum and also the long bolts.

You want more eterna bond tape actually attaching to the roof ….you’ve got it fully covering the alum tabs, but barely over the side touching the roof. I know it’s a strong tape but over time you’re risking debonding to the roof because it’s barely there

Thanks for all the info Myks. We're getting ready to install 4 x 100W panels on our cargo trailer mainly for the ability to keep all 4 of the Batteries for the Boat Stereo charged (don't ask... lol...) as they park in tandem. I do agree with Ian that the leading edge of eternabond should be a bit bigger (can't hurt) Also, I have a lil Karcher pressure washer that actually works pretty good with 55 gal on board water tank so perhaps with the right battery and inverter I can run that and not need the generator just to leave the dirt where it came from (my neighbors appreciate that). BTW I really like the tex coat paint on the walls and epoxy flooring. Did your trailer come that way? More upgrades coming on mine I guess... Moto On!!!👍👍

Question: can both the solar charger AND the onboard 110 charger, be connected to the battery at the same time? Meaning, can I leave both leads connected to the battery and have both sources charging at the same time? Not for the intention of charging faster, but because of not wanting to change connection sources if/when I have access to a supplier power source and don't want to connect/disconnect every time.
@Myksgarage11 ай бұрын
Good question, I leave both connected at the same time frequently and they will both be charging the battery and will then stop when it's full

@@Myksgarage im building a system mounted on my cargo trailer. so far I have installed 7 panels rated at 250 watts each I still have 5 more to mount, with an 8kw inverter and 2 server rack Lipo 48 volt batteries I had to use sq tubing and screws no tape
@mondavou94082 жыл бұрын
@@chadjones99 I would like to know more about your set up and if you have a line on where to pick up a high quality trailer for cheap. I want to do the same thing. I already purchased the inverter and batteries (EG4 6500EX & three EG4 100 AH 48V server rack batteries). On the hunt for a 16-28' trailer then I'll figure out how to max the solar and start putting it all together.

Real question, do you need the trickle charger if you have the solar panels? I want to copy your build amd was wondering if i have to keep the trickle charger plugged to the trailer.

In the summer I don't have to plugged it. Over the winter as the panel as been covered in snow, I have it plugged in

@@Myksgarage In your video you werent sure if the solar panel would "over charge" the battery. Did you find out if that was the case or not. What about just running the cords from the panel straight to the trickle charger
@CapitanDart Жыл бұрын
@@johnjuhasz7060 I know this is an old comment, but I thought I would chime in if you never found out. The solar controller protects the battery from getting over charged there are a few customizable settings in this style so you can even fine tune the voltage. You never want to plug solar directly into anything other than a controller of some kind because its wattage and amperage fluctuate throughout the day. You couldn't plug it directly into trickle charger anyway because these solar panels work on 12v DC like a car does, not 110v-120v like a typical house plug which that trickle charger needs.

Dude. Horrible implementation of your solar panel. No drip loop, no protection for your cable coming in the trailer, sloppy way to tape the panel to the rooftop, sloppy way to manage the rooftop cables of the panel. Definitely a DIY job by someone who doesn't know what they're doing. Just because you got it working doesn't mean you did it correctly.

@slcoareschannel1943 who gives a shit if there is a drip loop, he said he was going to seal it. All that matters is that it works. I'm sure if it doesn't pan out, he will do something different. I'm sure your best work, someone can do better, so either give some positive feedback or shut the hell up. You're one of those people who think they've always done everything perfect the first time. Jackass.
