This was supper fun to see the total solar eclipse and have the opportunity to track my solar system output at the same time. I hope you enjoy the results! See more more solar content and try my free solar financial calculator on my website: projectswithdave.com/ Let me know what you think below.

Small detail for correction, if I may- The pink spots are called solar prominences. They're essentially streamers of plasma that are pushed off the surface of the sun. A flare is a different phenomenon.

What a fantastic day! The eclipse was absolutely perfect in the Midwest. We are so fortunate to have been able to see this from our own homes.

It has rained most of the time since the eclipse, I can hardly believe we were able to have such a perfect day to watch it.

@@ProjectsWithDave I'm just glad those clouds were so whispy and didn't harm the experience at all too! I drove 2 hours south, 2.5 hours back home to see it - normal drive time would have been 45 minutes for where I went. Totally worth it!

There is a big difference between a partial eclipse and a total eclipse. The total eclipse is on another level.

I've been watching your work on vertical panels. I got a shock that you were in a position to record data during THE full eclipse. I appreciate you making such an effort. The coordination of all of the sources, (gopro, public animations etc) is so cool. I HOPE that you got enough direct observation of the event to balance this effort. Everyone deserves to see a full eclipse and I will pay attention to when it is even slightly possible here near where I live in Denmark. (I'm American though)

Was looking for a video of this type, and when I saw Dave has uploaded it. The excitement was in another level. Thanks for the video, Dave! One thing I request if you do not mind, please enable your Victron's VRM data to public so we can see more data on the solar performance.

My wife and I were in Arkansas for the eclipse. No clouds at all during totality. One of our friends that met us there has a large array that was not in the path of totality, but we were able to see the dip in production from the partial eclipse at his site.
@ProjectsWithDave7 ай бұрын
Nice! I wasn't really thinking about it much ahead of time. Then it occurred to me that this was a very unusual opportunity to have a total eclipse over my solar system and I didn't want to waste the opportunity.

Thanks for the great video Dave. I would love to see an analysis of a Bifacial with a 30 degree E/W orientation. I already have South and S/W facing arrays but I would like to increase my morning PV input. I hoping an E/W orientation would also catch significant afternoon input from the back.
@ProjectsWithDave7 ай бұрын
I've considered that. There are a lot of things to try. It's hard to check that without creating an array that shades itself. Maybe SSE and SSW would be better.

Good video. When the sun burns out for good, I would love to see the data on that. Make sure you have a good flashlight, but don't shine it on the panels. It'll mess up the data. LOL Someone once said if the sun burns out, at least we'll still have moonlight. Hahahaha..... This video lasted almost longer than the eclipse. But solar still stands as one of the easiest and fastest systems to erect after a natural disaster to supply power to temp medical facilities and such, with almost no supervision. So understanding how it works under various situations is vital.

Hi, very well executed and explained! :) I am really interested of how you monitor on the cell level where you don't have micro inverters. Do you have a wire from each cell down to the combiner box and do the serial and parallel connections after the monitoring? I looked at the Vuew 3 energy monitoring but didnt see anything regarding cell level monitoring.
@ProjectsWithDave7 ай бұрын
You can't do module level monitoring with the Emporia Vue.
@jonasgranlund44277 ай бұрын
@@ProjectsWithDave Hi, thank you, but it looked like you had the wattage of each panel including the ones to the traditional inverter, how are they monitored to show panel level watt? Or maybe I saw wrong?
