Would like it if you could swing by the Philly area again. I didn't get to your meet up because of a recent surgery.

You should have a fuse between the solar panel and the charge controller, just in case something goes wrong you don't burn up your bus. a disconnect switch is nice from the solar panels and another from the mppt to the battery bank or a fuse. DC breakers and fuses are very cheap.. of course for your large family 180 watts will do very little for your power needs. Panels are so cheap id cover the whole roof with solar. my rv runs on only solar in the summer. Im in the pacific nortwest so i get little in winter. but when i travel it covers all my power needs. i have 700 watts of solar and i love it!

Good start! Should keep your coach batteries charged more reliably. Lead/acid batteries have some considerable limitations so don't be expecting a trip to the candy store. If you REALLY want to power up your bus, see Will Prowse's KZbin videos on solar installations, batteries, etc. He's the best. He had some great, and very readable, manuals, as well. My 1990 Class A came factory equipped with a small solar panel, which even today does a good job of maintaining my batteries. Especially nice during storage time. Power on!

I would have thought you would have more than one solar panel for such a big vehicle. Easy peeze for your needs.

We will probably add more as we go.

Did you have to re-set your panels on a rack? How did they fair being attached to just the roof?
@TheBusLifeShow Жыл бұрын
They have done great. The roof is metal so there is a decent foundation for it.

The controller wont be happy with the heat in the cupboard. I have a massive system with 108 320w panels not sure what you will do other than keep a unused battery topped off
@TheBusLifeShow3 жыл бұрын
The controller runs very cool. I have checked it a number of times and it does not even feel warm. We are adding at least 2 more panels, possible 3 which would max out that controller.

Will can definitely light the way for a good solar power installation. What I particularly like about him is that he carefully tests everything and can tell you what is junk, and what is not. He can also direct you to durable/economical Lithium batteries, a must these days for any serious solar application. There was Light, and He saw that it was good!

Well done, however I have 2 questions a) is 180 watts sufficient what can you operate with this?. b) your self tapping screws will they hold down the solar panel without ripping off the roof skin on highway speeds? I'm in process of converting my own new flyer transit bus in to a motorhome with a 8.3Lrear engine Cummins Your advice would help.
@TheBusLifeShow3 жыл бұрын
a. No, it’s a good start. Will probably be adding at least 2 more panels. b. The screws should be sufficient enough to hold the panel down.

@@TheBusLifeShow hi there, I’m in the process of installing panels to the roof of our skoolie but I’m worried the self-tapping screws aren’t strong enough to hold the panels on the roof. Did you have to modify anything over time or were the self tapping screws enough to keep the panels safely attached? Thanks
