9/27/19 update, still workin like a champ!

Is that device in place of the second battery. With have a liftmaster and it has two batteries. We are solar powered as well. How can I tell if the solar panel is not working? Thanks!

Hello Susan, sorry for the late reply. The "device" is a solar control module, and it is NOT a battery; it would not be a substitute for a battery IMO. I unfortunately can't speak to your gate specifically as we have different models, but, I can tell you that my particular gate does NOT have dual backup batteries. The single deep cell battery I have is charged by the solar control module via a single solar panel. Hope that helped!

Interesting, as it's been that way for several years with no issues! I don't see how installed one way or the other makes a difference, do you know if swapping it over the other way helps in any way at all? Appreciate the comment!
