I have a project at work where I am actually going to get to use my solar knowledge to solve a problem of running power to a surveillance camera at a remote facility my company operates. This camera will be over 200 yards away from any building or power connection. It will also be the most critical camera because it will monitor the front gate to the facility. So it is important that I engineer this to provide plenty of power and be reliable.
Parts List:
Ubiquiti NanoStation M5 amzn.to/2pIaed0
Ubiquiti NanoStation Wall Mount (if not mounting to pole) amzn.to/2oXIQs0
Ubiquiti UVC cameras amzn.to/2oXP23j
Tycon PoE injectors (tycononline.com...)
Tycon Enclosure (tycononline.com...)
Deep Cycle battery (up to you depending on storage you want)
Charge controller (highly recommend Morningstar controllers) amzn.to/2pIemcN
DIN breaker such as: amzn.to/2qF7Y3f
Solar panel (I recommend the following) amzn.to/2pIeAk9
Solar panel mounts (depends on your application)

Thank you for sharing this . I am late to the game on solar but oddly enough I am planning to do something very similar at my home. I just happened to search just the right topic and stumbled onto your video. I think this will help me out a great deal now that I understand about the POE which I was having trouble figuring out how to use my own solar setup to power a wifi camera. Thank you!

I will try! They are expensive and time consuming to do but I agree, they are worth it. Did you watch the newer version of the same project? kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmi6m2VroamHpas

Very interesting setup. Is it possible to get more cameras (4 or more) running on a system like this? I have been looking around to build a system that is battery/ solar powered. With a 4/5g 12v router wich i already have. Its for our family shop where all the power gets shut off if we are not there. And we would like to keep an eye on it when no one is there.

Yes. It would just require bigger/more solar panels and more batteries. You can see a more recent setup that I did in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmi6m2VroamHpas

Wow! Awesome project. Power over ethernet interests me. I looked into that when setting up my wireless to wired internet. I found it cheaper just to go w/ a long booster usb over buying the powered usb to ethernet hubs. Still I love seeing it put into action here. There may come a time when i want to go that route instead.

+Prima Donna Going Off Grid Yeah it is a great technology. I've used it quite a few times putting wifi hotspots in the ceiling in our building and mounting antennas on a roof. It would be a major pain in the butt to have regular AC power wired to those locations.

Any concerns about caustic and/or explosive outgassing fumes from battery being trapped in same box as electronics? Would it not be best to split into two boxes and put battery down n its own box?
@LDSreliance
@LDSreliance 7 жыл бұрын
This particular box is purpose built for this. It does get a little ventilation. Unless something shorts it can't explode, though. Good comment, but I think this is pretty safe.

Do you still have the parts list and contact #'s to call for your solar panel for cameras ? I just saw your ho to video and found it very helpful but would like to know where I can buy the parts. Thanks
@LDSreliance
@LDSreliance 7 жыл бұрын
The parts list is in the video description. I didn't talk to anyone on the phone so I don't have any contact numbers. There are some newer cameras out now than the ones I used so you may consider a newer model but Ubiquiti is great.

Greetings... Something to consider is to keep the Panel high off the ground so that it is not easily taken. Also might not be a bad idea to install the panel on the Roof, and battery close by, then run a small power line to the Camera if that's possible. That way the Camera can be hidden easier or at the very least better concealed from searching eyes. Another idea for a camera is also on the Roof, as you plan, as a backup Camera should the lower camera be found and tampered with the higher camera just might catch who did it... Obviously I am playing Arm Chair QB here as I've not seen what you are working with but only your drawing and thought I'd add my 2 cents worth. I look forward to seeing how this project pans out. Wifi Network Cameras are dropping in price too, so something to consider as well.... Cheers....

+Paul Bialozor Yeah, putting all of this stuff higher up would be best but the front gate to the property is a long way from any buildings. I plan to put it on a 12 foot pole, with the bottom 3 feet anchored in concrete in the ground. I am not super worried about people tampering with it since they will have to get through the gate first and by then we will have some video of them. If they get in the property some other way and disable the cameras then there is nothing I can do for this camera. We will have 4 other cameras on top of a 40 foot telephone pole in the middle of the property, though, so unless they have climbing gear they aren't going to disable those.

Need some auto tracking and zooming cameras on that pole. Or just hire a security guard haha. I used to do that many years ago. Sit and stare at a CRT screen for hours zooming in at the parking lot during break time. Then go walking around dark areas of the building at night. It was really boring. A few times I had to babysit a concrete plant. Yea who is gonna screw around in a concrete plant. I found a different job haha

Hello just wondering what PoE injector you have used in this setup Cheers
@LDSreliance
@LDSreliance 4 жыл бұрын
It is from Tycon Systems. I don't remember the model number of the exact ones I used. But they have all sorts of different kinds of PoE injectors and PoE switches that you can use in an off grid solar application. Look under Tycon Power: tyconsystems.com/index.php/products/tycon-power

Hi, i have a question, whats the absolute smallest battery you could use for a setup like this?
@LDSreliance
@LDSreliance 6 жыл бұрын
That depends on where you live, what your load is (how many watts it consumes), how long each day the camera operates, whether you have a network device in the mix, and how many days of backup power you want.

@LDSreliance

What do you mean pre-made? I can sell you the same enclosure that you see in this video series. It is about $250 plus tax and shipping. It is weatherproof and dustproof and comes with mounting hardware for pole mounting.
