Check this thang out. Pretty cool way to keep a little charge going on things when not attended or in low use. What do you think?

Man, you are amazing! You're capable of producing 9 volts with that solar panel from your tummy.

I wonder if it will over charge or break down the battery faster over time?

Was thinking of getting something like that for my 99 Pathfinder. I don't usually get around to driving it enough to maintain the battery. This would be great.

Include that in a future box.

Unfortunately 18 V is too many volts to charge any vehicle batteries. I believe AGM batteries charge at 14.1 V and regular lead acid batteries around 13.7 or something like that. Basically it will keep your battery charge but it’s gonna damage your battery overtime.

That is an *essential* tool for my toolbox..... It's gonna be in the next box??

That'd be pretty solid for my first box!

So, I bought a 1.5 watt solar battery charger to trickle charge my 12V size 24 marine deep cycle battery that sits outside on the hitch in a battery box on my teardrop camper trailer. I hooked up the panel directly to the battery and no problem. I disconnected the battery and installed a battery monitor between the panel and the battery - when I went to hook up to the battery it took just a moment for the wires on the monitor to fire smoke and melt as I pulled it all off and of course burning myself (not badly just side of my finger). What happened? It is a new battery and was used over the weekend for maybe an hour to power the fan on my trailer - was it because the battery is fresh and new and had all the charge it could handle so it overloaded?

Sounds to me like it needs a charge controller.

They make a trickle charger built in

Opps meant a charge controller built in.

This sounds sketchy. If this is putting out 20 volts it will overcharge the battery. Volts by itself doesn't matter. What matters is the amps at 12-14 volts

I found one with charge controller built in.

I work remotely and this would be great to recharge a battery bank after I use it to charge my laptop. I might be able to go out for quite some time where I have signal.
