The lipless crankbait is a fairly simple lure to make. It is well known that they are weighted heavy to be a fast sinker and the ballast is low and towards the head so it will shimmy nose-down. You've taken a common lure and elevated it to an uncommon level of intricate detail and beauty. I like the multiple tow-points and from what I could make from the bathtub test, I favor the point farthest back. Although I cannot afford the lures you market, I hope you completely sell out so that you'll be motivated to continue making these fine lures and videos. Great job Mikko!

one thing i failed to illustrate in the video was that this lure actually floats. and the action comes from it sinking when it dives
@mike12618 ай бұрын
@@SolarfallBaits That's something I would not have expected. I'm guessing that the way you carved out the top of the head helps achieve the dive.

Your carving skills never cease to amaze me. Mine never look that good, but then if I'd invest in something better than free Pine scraps, I might have a little better results. It sure is difficult to show the true action in such a small space, however, they probably won't let you test them at the Hotel's indoor pool! LOL I made a couple replica Daily Double lures that had cups like yours. They seemed to work pretty well. Probably my favorite lipless crankbait is a Pico Perch, also called a Bayou Boogie. I've made a few of them and they have a lot of vibration. Another great lure build! Thanks Mikko

I make lipless out of balsa. Don’t know why since the buoyancy isn’t really helpful… But guys don’t buy hardwoods the way they do balsa baits. I do make some for myself out of a bitch plywood. You are probably going to knock the finish off the nose no matter what you use since there’s no lip to take any of the impact of hitting objects or just the bottom. Sandstone is brutal on lipless baits. Every wood has to be extra thoroughly sealed because of that and some take sealer better than others. I don’t know if that’s why he chose Maple, but it is a really good choice for lipless lures imo. Lipless require a lot of weight strategically positioned to get a good action no matter what wood really. This cat is a fabulous lure builder. I am sure he knows he could get an even more aggressive wiggle with a couple minor adjustments too.

Now it's 56 minutes later and I didn't skip a second. Such captivating stuff, I hope i can focus enough and get my shit together enough to get into lure making again, winter is coming after all and ice fishing is 💩 Hey a question, how much does something like this weigh? You kinda skipped the casting process so im a bit unclear, you said something about micro balloons or something? Is there a way to make the resin heavier, like adding metal powder or something? Great video as always 🤌👌
@SolarfallBaits8 ай бұрын
the weight i settled for my lure is 52g. i've added the ballast weight to the internal wire harness and thats kind of a trade secret that i didn't want to share in this video.
@thelonesomefisherman74258 ай бұрын
An interesting lure design. I wonder how it would work as a jigging lure? Beautiful finish, as always. I'm disappointed that you chose to omit the pouring of the actual lure. That is the critical step. That leaves me wondering how the hook hanger and line tie is inserted into the mold? Also, if you added any weight to the lure? Maybe you did a through wire harness but the viewer has no way of knowing.
@SolarfallBaits8 ай бұрын
Thanks for checking out the video. The lure might work as a jigging lure if you weigh it differently and weigh it in a way that it sinks, the ones i made floats. The hook eyes and line ties are a thru wire construction.
@thelonesomefisherman74258 ай бұрын
@SolarBaits Thanks for your reply and information. I guess I am confused as to how the wire harness is placed in the mold prior to closing the mold and pouring the plastic? Do you have to make a channel in the mold in order to fit the wire harness?

You should down size your lure and be around the size of 65 to 95 mm length max, because your not catching sharks with such big lures of course, and with my experience the more smaller the lure the more action and attraction towards river and lake fishes, just my opinion. No hard feelings.
@SolarfallBaits8 ай бұрын
i actually did start with a smaller maybe 9cm lure but decided to make it slightly bigger. these are 14cm. I think thats a pretty normal size for a pike lure in particular. but maybe downsizing to a smaller version in the future might not be a bad idea. thanks for checking out the video ;)
