Stanislaw Lem was seriously underrated. This BBC drama is really good.

The best adaptation of the book I listened to! Worth of a London's East End theater play.

So far, this has been much better than both movies. There's no skimping on Lem's main themes in the book.

Ron Cooks performance is sublime but also a great ensemble piece

The depth, the beauty, the sadness... Masterpiece adaptation of a masterpiece of literature.

Looks like more the movie than the book.... Awesome dramatization, beautiful voices. Great performances ☺

Apologies if this was already mentioned, but this single-file version (and I really like single-file versions) is out of order. Example: At 27:49 we jump way ahead, then at 1:03:41 return to where we should have been. There may be other instances of this but I didn't check so carefully. The quality of audio is otherwise amazing!

The BBC broadcast 'Solaris' in 2007 as a Classic Serial, in two hour-long episodes on Radio 4 on Sunday 29th JUly and Sunday 5th August at 3pm (repeated the following Saturday at 9pm). Part 1 : "A psychologist is sent to a run-down space station to find out what has happened to its crew. When his long-dead wife turns up, he finds himself in deep trouble." Part 2 : "Kris is falling in love with his replica wife and wants to take her back to Earth with him. Meanwhile, his colleagues are plotting to destroy the planet." Ron Cook .... Kris Joanne Froggatt .... Rheya Stuart Rickman .... Sartoris Tim McMullan .... Snow Maxine Burth .... The Woman Dramatised by Hattie Naylor Music by Alice Trueman Directed at BBC Manchester by Polly Thomas It's worth recalling what Stanislaw Lem said about previous attempts to dramatise 'Solaris'. "...to my best knowledge, the book was not dedicated to erotic problems of people in outer space... As Solaris' author I shall allow myself to repeat that I only wanted to create a vision of a human encounter with something that certainly exists, in a mighty manner perhaps, but cannot be reduced to human concepts, ideas or images. This is why the book was entitled 'Solaris' and not 'Love in Outer Space'."

The ocean: symbol of chaos and creation. The deceased wife emerges as the feminine chaos and potential rebirth. Did Lem do this intentionally? Maybe, but probably not. Symbolism just happens. I'd suggest Jonathan Pageau here on KZbin if you'd like to explore these ideas. Peace be upon you!!

Loved this! 👍 The voice actors were sublime. The editing was good too with the background noises and what not. I kinda want a visitor of my own. 😁

I don't know why the book makes me so sentimental. Sometimes I feel like it's not worth living such a life, and sometimes I appreciate that I have the ability to read and enjoy such magical literary productions. I don't know; it's very hard to kill the loneliness and aimlessness. I am jealous of the main character because he's able to think and love. I have nothing; I'm so empty inside.

Come on, keep reading great sci fi and maybe try writing a little yourself. You will forget this crappy world and create new ones and characters to populate them. Prayers and love, my friend.

Wishing you strength to get better! If you feel lonely, or even devastated.. it’s ok. It’s part of life. No need to prove anything to anyone. Accept and appreciate your journey. It’s only yours and there is no second chance. I believe, even in isolation or solitude you can be happy.

It was on bbc sounds so I’ve heard it in the correct order. The episode where he puts rea in the shuttle is in the wrong place. At first I thought it was missing until it played later on.
@Snardbafulator6 ай бұрын
@@nopants3560 Since the outer frame of the story is Chris alone with his journal / log writing / reminiscing of past events, I thought that was a dramatic editor's choice to tell the space launch after we got to know Chris and Rheya.

Why did you put this god-awful music in between the chapters? It bears no relation to the story.
@peterfreeman66776 ай бұрын
The BBC in its ineffable wisdom decided that music was required. Blame the commissioning editors.
