If I was designing my own boat, I'm a sucker for those fake teak decks with those foam deck options now. I also agree the hull should be painted something other than white. It's the equivalent of putting nice alloy wheels on your car compared to steel wheels with cheap wheel trim covers. Just helps to set the boat apart from all others with a touch of class 🤠

I almost didn't watch this video (thinking "a 20 year old trawler, meh!") but I'm sure glad I did! Spectacular vessel, really built with sea-keeping in mind, just luxurious enough to not detract from its' appeal as a boater's boat, a boat for someone who likes to be at sea. At 13.27 though there seems to be a fair bit of water damage at the top of the stair below that hatch coaming, what's the story on that? (EDIT: I see my question has been answered below, thx.)
@GarnockReviews3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the detailed response. I agree that for the most part, very little of the boat felt like a 20 year old trawler. I would love to do a side by side comparison of new vs old to see what differences there are, if any.
@PhilbyFavourites3 жыл бұрын
I noticed that too as the only negative in a exceptionally well cared for vessel. My thoughts were that it had been used in all weathers and that was drips from the wet feet on the top of the access stairway as people enter and exit the pilots house. It’s just a wild guess, but certainly doesn’t detract from what is an immensely capable vessel with a good few years left in her.

While going from the pilothouse to the fly bridge I novice water damage to the teak veneer. 1. How did that happen? 2. How extensive is the damage? 3. What repairs (if any) were made? 4. No ladder cockpit to flu bridge, is it available?
@GarnockReviews3 жыл бұрын
Andrew, good eye! As with any boat, I would always recommend a good survey before purchase. The broker did tell me that the root cause of the leak has been repaired and is ready for any hose down, rain, or sea. If memory serves me correctly I believe it was the window seals that needed replacement. Whatever it was, it has apparently been taken care of. As to the flybridge, I didn't see any ladders when I was on board. However, the flybridge is easily accessed from the helm and with 3 entry points to the helm, I doubt the ladder would ever be used.
@jaquigreenlees3 жыл бұрын
The Selene 43 does not have cockpit to flying bridge access by default. The Selene access would cut the cockpit space in half as they normally do it with a curving staircase.

I like the wheelhouse like these, separate and not part of the salon - but don’t find it is a common feature. I just need to find an older model of this to fall within the budget.
@GarnockReviews3 жыл бұрын
I love this design as well. It always makes me feel like I am on a little ship rather than just a boat. For some reason, the design is not as common as I would have liked, as most boats have lower helm stations as part of the saloon instead.

I live in a country that has 220v 50HZ. How would this boat cope. Also I guess the wiring throughout the boat is 110 Volt 60HZ and appliances are the same.? Also all the plugs look American.
@GarnockReviews3 жыл бұрын
Hey Graeme, if you asked that question years ago, it would no doubt be a deal breaker. However, these days it is very easy to travel the world when it comes to electrics without rewiring the entire boat. The secret, is making sure you have the right inverters installed. Here is an article that explains it better than I can www.cruisingworld.com/how/wired-world.
@jaquigreenlees3 жыл бұрын
An important question for ANYONE looking to make an offer on any Selene prior to 2013: Does she come with full diagrams of the plumbing and electrical systems? The 2012 model year was the last year Selene yachts each had individual wiring and plumbing plans, client feedback made them create a standard plan for each model starting in 2013. The large hatch in the forward stateroom also being an escape hatch is actually a requirement for CE Category A certification, every CE Category A yacht can claim that feature. ;)
@GarnockReviews3 жыл бұрын
Good info!! I am not sure if they have drawings or not, but in this particular example I am not sure they would be as relevant. This boat has had a lot of electrical and electronic upgrades over the years that I am not convinced the drawings would hold as much value now.
@jaquigreenlees3 жыл бұрын
@@GarnockReviews you will need to replace the wires, knowing how they run makes it easier. knowing how the plumbing runs makes any repairs easier. The diagrams or lack aren't a deal breaker, they aren't hard to make. The knowledge they give is valuable for future repairs / refits.

Is it possible to operate a boat of this size single handed?
@GarnockReviews3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say any boat of this size could be easily handled by 1 person, but this particular boat is fully equipped for it. Not only do you have deck access straight from the helm on both sides, but both decks have engine and thruster control units. You even have a lanyard that allows you to control the bow and stern thrusters so you could keep it pinned to a pontoon while you tie up ropes.

Andy, thank you for watching my video. I used to be a boat broker but I am out that field and only do video reviews now. I'm sure if you check the listings she also has a smaller "get home" engine. Very few single engine trawler yachts do not have a secondary backup engine, drive shaft and propeller offset from the main engine, usually on the port side. Those that don't have a hydraulic drive from the larger generator to the main shaft to provide the same functionality.
