I saw this car when the IRS was showing it before the sealed bid auction in 1997. Minimum bid was $235,000. It was the original color then that was lighter blue. It has been through changes since first built, different superchargers and somehow the shifter comes out of a different location in the tunnel that before. Dash a little different as well and all those red and blue fittings and braided lines were not there before.

I'd demand a dyno sheet saying the engine really has 800hp. Ford's RACING engines in the mid-60's were 390-425hp. Twin-supercharged or not, that's a lot for the internals to handle. I'd demand $5,000 back for every 1hp under 800hp.
@bricefleckenstein96662 жыл бұрын
Ford RACING 427 side oilers made more than 425 HP. That was the FACTORY rating - and was conservative. Even DODGE said that the 427 side oiler was capable of over 500hp (no blowers needed) - when complaining to NASCAR about it's unfair power advantage over the 426 Hemi. Is it capable of 800 NET horsepower by current standards? Probably not, but the claim was always an estimate in GROSS horsepower anyway as Shelby didn't have access to a dyno that would handle the engine.

@@cmccarthy I can barely picture a '69 fastback doing 145 with a 4 barrel 390. My Mom's '68 GALAXY *2 barrel* 390 4-door could hit 120 with enough open roadway and FAR worse aerodynamics.

Ah. Its an automatic but you have to realize. A manual supersnake would be incredibly twitchy in that era. You need a torque converter. Its the only flaw of the car. It wasnt possible to make a manual for that level of power and rev match to a reasonable torque. Shame we never found a way to integrate a clutch into a torque converter for this sort of machine.

Exactly. I would buy a mansion and a 1969 Corvette L-88. I would still have plenty of money left over.

Brings back memories as a kid riding around in a 427 twin super charge (called turbo's today) jimmy raced it had trophy's that where at least 3 to 5 foot tall. It was a great time back then
@johnkempf18083 жыл бұрын
Um, A turbocharger relies on a vehicle's exhaust to spool up a turbine to power a compressor. The compressor then pulls in and feeds more air to an engine. On the other hand, a supercharger depends on the engine to rotate. ... A supercharger doesn't rely on exhaust gas and power comes immediately.
