I just want to go on record here regarding the long waits for the big waves. This video wasn't intended to be about that, but the comments section seems to have turned into a conversation on that topic. I do agree that the long waits suck, and that two years is a LONG time to wait for figures. Hopefully they can improve that aspect of their pre-order model. But I'd rather have a six month delay here and there than a system that eliminates the made-to-order aspect of production. A system that delays pre-orders until after the production size is determined (which is essentially what people are asking for here) would open up the likelihood of fast sellouts and scalper-freindly drops. And I REALLY hope that never happens to Mythic Legions. Some people will inevitably treat me like some sort of vile shill apologist for having this opinion, but that is my opinion and I'm not going to engage in fake outrage just to appease the hotheads who can't handle my less-than-extreme take on things. But the good news for you is that there are plenty of other youtube channels where outrage is the core mission.

I used to pre-order everything! I'd say the last 2 - 3 years, I've cutback to only pre-ordering my "must-haves". That's for all lines not just Mythic/Cosmic. I've cutback on collecting in general. My kids are getting older and their cost is rising (school, sports, life, etc). So, I get the figures I really want and pass on the rest.

I don’t care about the preorder wait as much as I do the in stock wait. 3 weeks to ship my order and now USPS is delayed so almost a month waiting. It’s not fun to wait that long. They need more manpower if it takes 3 weeks to ship everything.

Great perspective and advice, Bill! We’ve been an environment of oversupply of most 4HM figures for a few years now. I don’t have inside info, but the mystery boxes last year and recently announced heads packs appear to me to be smart ways for the Horsemen to address the oversupply. These sellouts at BBTS of figures still on preorder seems to be a clear signal that production runs and retailer orders are lower than in the past few waves. (I know we’ve been told that, but this is supporting evidence that what we’ve been told is true.) I totally agree with your suggestion to preorder any figures you really want to make sure that you get them.

I like that they are finding creative ways to sell through, rather than just allowing the retailers to blow stuff out at clearance prices. Sales are fine, but letting stuff get to deep clearance is not good for the line.

I feel like waiting to get it at one of the conventions is pointless because instead of paying shipping costs your paying for admission, hotel room, gas/travel expenses, etc. Where as if you just placed the direct preorder your getting it cheaper anyway and it comes straight to you once it arrives at the warehouse.

Nice video. It is interesting how different the mythic legions market is now compared to when I got in around the shipping of Advent of Decay. I remember thinking "I just wish I could buy any mythic legions anywhere." Now, I feel like the wish was granted but, I'm near paralyzed by so many choices and so many waves (and lines too if counting Cosmic and Figura Obscura) to keep up with. It's not a bad thing, it's just very different... Also, I'm running out of room for these things haha.

I never do preorders i have to pay for upfront because i wind up canceling 90% of them after i realize i dont really need them to complete shelves . Even on bbts i cancel a lot because they drop after i have spent my budget for toys . Made to order only helps the company not the consumer whose taste changes sometimes day to day with all the different toys coming out competing for our money .

Good things come to those who wait. It's not a bad thing in reality, I'm on the opposite coast it takes a little bit longer for things to get here. Four horsemen studio's has over a dozen retailers threw out the continental US, pre-ordering is how I've personally been able to obtain almost all the figures I have. Understanding that the wait exists, logistical challenges exist ,Containerized freight, for these folks at the studio's warehouse, I'm not the only one waiting so on,&so on. They've always come in when they come in, never had a problem. A mild concern going forward is how the tariff thing is going to affect future pre-orders.? That's a wait and see as well. love this toy line either way, as with any other toy line, certain products are more in demand than others, so pre-ordering gives one a foot-hold on the one's you want and the after market is always a bit more pricey. I agree with you, If you like something enough pre-order.

I think one factor Agbendor is almost sold out is that this wave has something for many collectors like gobs, wizards, knights, ogre, skelly, and is also attractive for army builds. BTW I'm surprised they haven't reused Torgun head. I wish they do sometime.

Ashes of Agbendor is a wave is skipped on the pre-order from 4H. This was one of the first direct pre-orders I skipped since 2020, but I did decide to pre-order them from BBTS to at least secure the ones I really wanted. When it gets closer to the wave release I'll probably order them from a Canadian retailer and cancel the BBTS pre-orders. I like that BBTS will allow you to pre-order and Pay when the items are actually ready to ship. For some reason Canadian retailers that sell legions all want payment at time of the order.

The preorder model is broken. The wait for these figures is too long. Why should anyone pay in advance and wait two years for these figures? Honestly, I used to preorder but now I wait for conventions. If the prices of convention will be regular retail price I may just stop collecting as these prices are getting out of hand. I remember when you can get a ML figures for less than 20 dollars. I guess those days are long gone because of the dollar debasement but come on. 37 dollars to 50 dollars is a significant percentage price increase. Anyway, that is just my rant for now. I will be observing ML from a distance until price and articulation of the figures improve.

I feel there should be limits on the amount any one buyer can purchase. Scalpers, speculators and profiteers have ruined it for the real collector. Yes, it doesn't make sense at a business level. They are in the market to make money and feed their families...I get that. But Four Horseman is not just a coampany...it is a community...a family unto its own. Just my two cents worth.

The logic here is flawed. You want MORE extras in the aftermarket not fewer. The fewer extras that are out there, the higher the aftermarket price will be.
@Toylytics
@Toylytics 7 күн бұрын
The 4HM preorder period is a timed, open preorder. Anyone can order any amount they want and they will get produced, so no scalper’s order is precluding anyone else from getting what they want. As Bill said, the effect is the exact opposite of your concern, and there are additional figures produced and available on the market that wouldn’t have been made at all without the scalper’s preorder.

Great content and food for thought as always Bill. With you on the categories, it becomes must have assp (pre-order direct), must have (pre-order retailer), wait for release & reviews, & not for me. The intersting figures for me, have been the “preview” figures, the Valiant Knight, & Skeleton Legion Builder 2. Valiant Knight wasn’t easily available, Skeleton Legion Builder 2 was (via ISS). I wasn’t as disappointed re missing out on the Valiant Knight, & chose not to get the Skeli Builder 2 because I thought the Necro wave was soon to arrive, the 6 month + delay on that wave certainly has changed my view on how I reflect on that. I also reflect on the balance 4H need to have with trying to get these waves with new parts, new tooling quicker than a 2 year turnaround. And QA is obviously critical to that. Poxxus wave took the time , & is full of so many awesome figures (ie Aracagorr my favourite Legions figure, & of all figures in 2024). That said as beautiful as Kalizirr is, geez that scale has some problems (see also Kannox Vull), so clearly the wave needs to come out but the brute scale was not there to the same very high QA standards as 99% of all other Legions figures.

@DorkLair
@DorkLair 8 күн бұрын
When the decision is to buy an older, simpler figure at a high price vs a new fully-loaded figure, I think people just tend to go for the newer figure. This will no doubt diminish demand for those early ones, dropping their value.
@Toylytics
@Toylytics 7 күн бұрын
The secondary market price for Snagg has decreased because he was reproduced for the Mystery Boxes last year. He’s still selling new for $75-$90, which isn’t as high as before but is still higher than retail. The figures whose prices have decreased are those who were reproduced for the Mystery Boxes or AS waves. Check the prices of the figures from the AoD wave which have never been reproduced. Many of them are still selling for $120-$200.

Hello, another awesome show, my friend. I know you like to predict things, Bill so speaking about the 4HM and the decision to make the price at the Con, the retail price might just leave them with more inventory to take back with them after Legions Con is over because like you said most people go to the show mostly because they can get a better price. So I wish them the best with that decision. My prediction is they will sell a lot less at the shows they will still sell but not as much.

The thing you might be missing is, that this wave of figures (Ashes Of Agbendor) ALL come with so much stuff (extra heads and hands, magic effects, various weapons,...) that these figures ARE worth their (pre-order) price. No need for extra weapons, magic effects and heads packs anymore? Also a lot of blue/purple parts/highlights in the wave which make it stand out from the other figures perhaps?

@DorkLair
@DorkLair 5 күн бұрын
@@Booyakasha141 I think it's important to try to put myself in others' shoes. Many people have a hard time seeing the complexity of things and imagining the perspective of the company, only the individual self. They care only about the date they ordered and its relationship to the date they have it in hand. Nothing else matters. They don't take into consideration the month or more window for the direct pre-order and the additional month of retail pre-order. They don't care that most of the pre-production won't even begin until after those two to three months have passed. They don't care that these waves are huge, often with tons of new tooling. They don't care that the complexity of a wave will often lead to pre-production delays, with lots of slow back and forth (caused by massive time zone differences) between factory and project managers. They don't care that if a single figure in the wave gets stuck in the troubleshooting stage, the entire wave needs to wait, even if those figures are already produced. They don't care that even if the product might be complete and shipped from the factory, and yet still two months from being in their hands. They don't care. To some people these are all excuses and the consumer has been "wronged" or experiencing harm. I may not agree with the opinion that some people have about being "wronged" but I can at least try to acknowledge that those feelings exist. We all want shorter pre-order times, and even the Horsemen are also incredibly frustrated by delays. But the claims that people are making that the system is broken, is hyperbolic internet outrage. Yes there are flaws, when a company keeps underestimating again and again it can be super annoying. But having flaws does not equal a broken system. My wish isn't that people would stop complaining, it's that they would quit engaging in the internet outrage and reinventing of reality. I saw multiple people claim that Necronominus was DELAYED by over three years since they ordered in 2022 and it was delivered in 2025, when the truth is it was delayed by slightly over seven months (July 1 2024 to Feb 4 2025). Does that seven month delay suck? Absolutely. But language matters and people will feel more justified in their outrage if they can claim it was a three year delay as opposed to a half year delay. So yeah the thing I wish people would quit doing is the loud proclamations of consumer harm and exaggerated impacts. But I absolutely sympathize with the people who are frustrated by the months-long delays.

My frustration is less about the price or availability, and more about the lead time. It seems so many toy manufacturers, Mythic Legions in particular, offer pre-orders 1-2 years ahead. How is it taking this long to produce a plastic figure? Isn't this the age of rapid prototyping and efficient manufacturing?
@DorkLair
@DorkLair 7 күн бұрын
Those companies are just as frustrated as everyone else by delays. But if they were to start waiting until production is near completion before soliciting pre-orders, it could get ugly. Overproduction can destroy companies, so if they had to guess the supply, they would guess low to be safe. And if they started doing pre-orders that sold out right away people would riot.

As you mentioned , time for the pendulum to swing back . , and swing towards a collectors market. A market like in pre 2018 if you didn’t pre ordered you pretty much missed out. Past years have been a commodity market , tons of competition selling the exact same stuff, price control but yet letting supply run wild and manufacturers dumping supply on everyone (even at discounts). Bubble has to pop and reset. Not even mentioning how much customer spending power is drying up . And factor in how much money have tied up in full paid off pre orders. Beginning of the reset and will see lots of changes I think. It will swing back years later in the future once everyone starts pre ordering with fomo again .

Great video, I know it took me too long to realise these things and make sure I get a preorder in on figures I want and not treat it like Marvel Legend or Black Series where I can get it whenever. Don't know how useful this "tip" is for others but something I do to reduce the upfront cost is preorder everything on BBTS so I can't miss out on anything, then over time preorder with my local retailer and cancel the BBTS preorders (unless I want duplicates).
