Amazon entered an 11-year deal with the NBA to broadcast games starting in 2025, so it no longer needs Bally regional games to show the NBA.

There are many old 60s shows on catchy TV and antenna TV which are free and free broadcast TV has less commercials than Pluto

The deal is for everything under Paramount, not just the two streaming services. CBS, Paramount+, BET, Nickelodeon, Pluto TV, and numerous other properties will all be taken over by Skydance. Hopefully Pluto does not change to pay per view model.

Pluto TV SUCKS ASS. 90% of everything on it is TRASH, and they can't even be bothered to show entire collections, just reshow the top 20 episodes of any show. For example ST Voyager... They show the same 24 episodes out of 7 YEARS over and over and over again. And the SAME FUCKING COMMERCIAL EVERY FUCKING BREAK!!! I'm SOOOO ready to just delete that garbage app!!!

As for the same commercials being aired, that’s not just Pluto tv, that’s every streaming service. Peacock, Max, etc. so don’t go blaming Pluto for what everyone does.

Funny that the streaming landscape is getting more and more like the TV and cable systems in that fewer players and more content that people won't want and would like al-a-carte. 🤷‍♂🤦‍♂ I would assume at the end there will be only a few people left when the dust settles in 5 years or so. You will be right back to the cable packages again.

Amazon has become the new home for a portion of the NBA games beginning in 2025. They no longer need Bally sports to broadcast these games. That's why they pulled out of Bally.

While those are both NBA games Bally's is more for local teams as opposed to a national broadcast which is what they paid for knocking TNT out of the market. Like Bally's Great Lakes only shows the Cavs games. They are the regional arm of the NBA.

Paramount is horrendous. We just dumped it after 30 days. I cant believe the number of commercials. My kids put on Spongebob and there is a 105 second commercial. The Spongebob intro is about 2 minutes and then another 28 seconds of commercials, then more commercials a few times during the 12 minute episode AND at the end of the episode in case they're wanted to watch the 2nd episode for that block of Spongebob. Its pretty much 50/50 commercials and so we're done.

Short term no change? Yes it will. They need a return on investment for their purchase. So plan on a price hike for paramount plus, probably the elimination of the yearly plan so people cant avoid the monthly hikes, and can almost guarantee the frequency of ads shown on pluto will increase.

The frequency of ads on Pluto TV has gone up quite a bit in the last few years. Increasing it any more will make it an advertising streaming service occasionally showing bits of TV programming in between the ads! 😉

Pluto TV = a LOT of commercials. I recently checked a movie and they inserted a commercial break every 7 minutes. With the old TV shows the commercial breaks seem to be placed where they were when the program originally aired. Outside of the occasional TV show I have given up on Pluto TV.

It’s getting to the point where if you purchase all these streaming services it will cost you more than having cable. That’s why we have only one streaming service for $7.99 & that’s it. Make no sense purchasing so many streams services.

Hopefully, the Skydance Team does better with Paramount than the Discovery Channel team did in it's takeover. Warner Brothers & HBO Max (now Max) has sucked horribly since David Zaslav got his hands on it.

There is a Roku TV channel that tends to show A-Team marathons on a regular basis. I can't remember what it's called but if you do have a Roku device, that's an option.

I believe Regional Sports Networks will be a thing of the past. The NHL, NBA, MLB, NFL, and College Conferences will develop their own streaming platform, and viewers will subscribe directly thru them. I'm not sure how everything would work, but the Regional Sports Networks will soon be a thing of the past soon.

Which also probably means that, unless ethnic minority groups snap them up for a bargain price, this might just finish killing AM stations, since sports is still part of their repertoire.

I never watched Pluto TV has way too many commercials you can't press the mute button.... free TV like catcht TV and antenna TV have many good older shows plus I record them on my VCR or I can press the mute button when they have commercials and the commercials are not as annoying as Pluto TV commercials which you cannot mute

"We’re writing to let you know that on September 20,2024, the monthly subscription price for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME is increasing to $12.99/month. Have you tried OTA with a TV antenna (if you can receive OTA signals in your area)? I get both MeTV and MeTV Toons using an antenna. Not much reason to watch the cartoons, but I do watch the older TV programs on MeTV.

@joannaa.5101 There are some benefits to streaming, but it doesn't beat the ease of use of cable. You used to be able to just turn on the tv and then quickly flip through all your channels with a press of a button.
