I hate these stupid micro USB ports... for something that fails so often and gets so much force applied to it regularly it should be much easier to solder. Pins and holes would make so much more sense.

Hopefully you've had some time to practice since you made this video. I found it almost unbelievable the extra work you made for yourself by breaking stuff. Best of luck to you!

Your point is well made. I ask this as a relative novice at soldering, how should it be done? When I saw the iron being rapidly moved side to side causing 'big' blobs of solder to short connections I thought "This isn't going well", and I wondered if the solder wick should have been used a little sooner.

Excellent video, thanks! I stripped the board when removing my charge port from my LG v20. Has ~10 trace repairs :(. May I ask what wire size you recommend/used? Insulated or non-insulated? Any info is appreciated. Thanks!!!

Is it not okay to just put a glob of solder over all 5 of those, where it would be connecting them together? I did that to a remote for my electric skateboard and now it the blue light that tells you it's ready to take off the charger stays on instead of the red that would normally be on when I unplugged. So I don't know if it's even charging when I plug it in now. Also, am afraid to try leaving it plugged in, cause I don't know if it could cause a fire or something.

I haven't soldered anything since I was a kid, but my Kindle's microUSB port appears to have come unsoldered. What tools would I need to attempt this? Aside from a soldering iron, of course.
@RepairLab

A soldering Iron, some flux and maybe some wick and of course a magnifier should be all you need.
@travispratt6327
@travispratt6327 4 жыл бұрын
You need solder too =p 60/40 leaded solder is the only way I’d even attempt this, the lead free stuff is alright for larger connections but just does not melt or wet good enough for this micro stuff.

I think is a bad repair. The holes in the board are there for one reason, and it is to support/absorb mechanical stress. The connector has legs that need to be bend it and inserted into the holes.

what's irons and hot ait temperature?
@RepairLab
@RepairLab 7 жыл бұрын
Tom Kan I always use the soldering iron around 300-320 Celsius (depends on the tip) and the hot air as well but you must find your own settings because every station is different and there other important variables like environmental temperature etc. I hope this helps.

this kind of failure in common day to day, he could have removed the excess weld with a needle, but wanted to try to remove with the flow and ended up removing a pad ... more gave to redo the trail at the end .... we know that this exchange is very fast in the laboratory every day.

Bad way to remove solder... Should have used a solder wick or a desoldering sucker to remove excess solder.. In the first place, should have put the tip of solder wire to the legs/pins of the microUSB to solder. That would avoid too much solder being taken and applied to the legs/pins... Such a simple solder task which can complete in 3 mins which took up so much time....
@studentism
@studentism 5 жыл бұрын
@@wilsonchew93 you're right about the wick--should've given up and done that after a swipe or two failed to remove the solder bridge. i don't agree with what you said about the soldering wire, though, given the size of the component. this is a pretty standard method for SMD work
