Thank you for sharing! Is it possible to show how to create the ripple/swirl texture decoration on the solder?

Once your finished with the piece (may sound silly) but do you remove the clear tape once everything's clean?
@MakeStainedGlass3 жыл бұрын
Yes I do! This was just a temporary barrier to prevent flux from touching the paint.

Do you ever trouble with a side along the edge release from the glass. Like the copper foil lifts away from the glass. Happened to me twice.
@MakeStainedGlass4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. I have had this happen a few times early on. The culprit for this is usually poor adhesion due to old or poor quality foil or dirty glass. Another reason I've heard of is that there may be too much heat being used. And just in case you're wondering, my favourite foil is Edco. ;)

I love this. What temp was you iron for 60/40 solder? Thanks!
@MakeStainedGlass6 жыл бұрын
I usually use my iron set around 360 degrees, but if you find that everything melts too quickly the next lowest setting on mine is 310 degrees and that would work well for doing this technique too.

Thanks so much! I have everything out and will be trying this!

What temp did you set your iron on? Also what was the name of the soldering iron you used?
@MakeStainedGlass6 жыл бұрын
The iron would have been at about 360 degrees but you can always adjust it up or down depending on personal preference. The iron used here is the Hakko FX601. amzn.to/2u5wqz4 (affiliate link)

@faytedrow93834 жыл бұрын
what do you mean by tinning
@MakeStainedGlass4 жыл бұрын
Tinning is when only enough solder is added to turn the copper foil silver so that it's not built up all.

63/37 or 60/40 solder for decorating?
@MakeStainedGlass5 жыл бұрын
It's really a personal preference. I never really noticed a difference when using my Weller iron, so I just got used to using 60/40 for everything. I have a roll of 63/37 sitting in the closet where it has been for about 9 or 10 years. Since I started using the Hakko iron, I just stick with the 60/40 and adjust the temperature control.
