Very cool. Been using the Viper product. Now want to compare it to an old school rag. Thanks for taking the time and effort!
@KevFlaAVCHD5 жыл бұрын
You're open to the atmosphere on the left end and crimped on the right end of the pipe. You have 50 degree air freely entering the left end helping to cool the Hot Block side, and basically nil air entering the crimped end of the Wet Rag keeping the temperature higher. This is why you are seeing about a 50 degree difference between the two.
@HVACinSC5 жыл бұрын
Nope. Tried this with multiple setups with the same results but thanks for watching. 👍
@carlmccoy6626 жыл бұрын
Great comparison, thanks for doing this. The wet rag had an advantage because of the longer copper end acts as a heat sink. This was apparent in the cool down phase.
@HVACinSC6 жыл бұрын
I was positive there would be guys picking apart the test no matter the setup so take from this video what you will. One could argue the pinched pipe elevated the temp on that side too making it hotter than it should have been on that same side. Bottom line, both products work well. Thanks for watching.

@@HVACinSC i don't think he meant it to criticize you but he does have a point.
@HVACinSC6 жыл бұрын
@@WTC7 I didn't take it as criticism. Simply that those variables are minute. As I mentioned, it could also be argued that the pinched pipe canceled out the extra few inches of copper pipe that were potentially acting like a heat sink.
@carlmccoy6626 жыл бұрын
See below for the "pinched pipe" comment. Just comments and ideas. I like the traditional wet rag comparison idea. Also, since you have the temperature clamps attached, perhaps they can be what actually hold the pipe (instead of vice) for the next test. @@HVACinSC
@HVACinSC6 жыл бұрын
@@carlmccoy662 I will test to see if there is any significant difference with this setup and if I find there is I will change it. If it is extremely minimal as I'm guessing it is, the next test will be done in this same fashion. Thanks for your comments.

Will it create steam and choke out my torch flame like a water soaked rag? Close braze joints to components like head pressure controls choke out my torch flame, therefore i have to braze a joint one at a time without the rag and the quickly throw the water soaked rag on the joint to prevent damage. I would rather try the putty than the method that I am forced to do since component manufacturers didn't design the component with longer connections to prevent install damage.

Do you have a thermal gun that goes up really high so after you do the Rosebud in the middle to show how high it really is compared to the temperature clamps to the sides...just curious

Awesome video & Very Well Done ! i Very Much enjoyed it ! But, What i am about to say now should not be taken away to lessen the Awesome value of Your video ! Your video Proves that Both Products are Very good Products , Work very Well ! and are Very Similar. That Being said , i Wish u Had Weighed 6 ounces of each product & used that same amount on the side x side test. Using Different amounts of product Will / should affect the heat absorption rate. i think u metioned one ball was 8 ounce vs 12 ounces. that means that u had 30% more thermal mass to block the heat with the wet rag product. Begging the Question ? What would the results have been like with Equal weight amount of product ? 2. A Piece of pipe open on both ends. Thanks Again for an Awesome video ! Very well done !
