I was at Ft Campbell in 1964-65 after returning from overseas. I only served there one year, but found it to be a nice place to serve and it was very peaceful. No complaints.

Rob Mar: I don’t know if you were also there in 1978-79 or not. My friend’s father, George Kenneth Picket was there then because she born in the base hospital. I don’t know the details, but her mom and dad later divorced and remarried. George died yesterday and my friend has not one picture of her dad. The wife will not share any with my friend, Rebecca. She was hopeful to even get a group shot. I know it is a long shot but maybe you or someone else knew him and has a picture. Or if you know how I could get one from the base it would mean so much to her. Thank you. Thank y’all for your service and God richly bless you.

I was stationed there in 1981-82. 1/503rd Infantry. It has definitely changed. I lived off-post as I was married during that time, but my unit had brick buildings, but not like those seen here. It was 3-4 to a room at that time. Some units lived in the WWII barracks and Post/Division Headquarters was a large wooden structure then and as I recall was in the middle of the first circle you come to after you enter the main gate. I hope to take a trip down there sometime to see what it is like. I mostly enjoyed my time there.

My barracks in 1998-2000 was literally split right down the middle between KY and Tennessee. We had a payphone at one end of the barracks and one at the other end and I'd fuck with my Dad and use the one at the KY end and run down the hall and use the one at the TN end and he'd laugh because his caller ID would go crazy.

I also went to school there in 1965 through 1966. 2nd and 3rd grade. I still remember the name of my teacher from 3rd grade Mrs. Stenson.I was recently looking at a satellite pic of Fort Campbell on google earth and it seems that the school had been bulldozed. I remember the movies were 25 whole cents and the manager would play rock music and let all of us kids dance up on the stage before they showed the movie. I also remember the NCO club swimming pool in the summer time. It was great.

It’s still true ... the best unit is the one you left and the one you’re going to. To some people it’s “the same” once you get there ! To others like me, have fond memories ! Best of luck to all who are currently serving !

haha....why don't they show the barracks room in 4th brigade and 4-320th....true modern barracks!!!! lol Of course they'd show sustainment brigade. Soldiers in infantry brigades and identical brigades get the lowest standard barracks stateside and during deployment. These guys don't get anything good wherever they are. It's sad. Do something about that Fort Campbell.

My unit, Co B, 313 ASA BN lived in the old WW2 barracks on the east side of the Post. I was there in 1964-65, but most of the other units there lived in more modern barracks at that time. We were told that that the National Guard had used our barracks for summer camp before our unit arrived from Ft Bragg, NC around 1960. HQs for the 313th ASA BN was at Ft. Bragg along with HQs Company, and A Company, C Company was at Benning, GA, and of course Company B at Campbell. We were with the 18th AB Corps and wore the 18th AB patch. Most people on Post did not even know we were stationed there, and when some of our people went into a building, 101st personnel thought we were visiting from Ft Bragg. We always got a lot of attention since they thought we were from corps. Most of our company left for Vietnam in May 1965. I went back to the Post in 1986 and again in 1995 to visit, and of course my old company area was gone.

that's only the new barracks. I lived in a building from the '50's where I shared a room with with another person. the room was only 10' X 12' and the only privacy we had was putting 2 wall lockers in between our beds. There is only once bathroom for each gender on each floor. Each bathroom only had 4 toilets, 4 urinals, 4 showers, and 4 sinks. Imagine trying to squeeze 50+ guys in a bathroom like that after PT.

Naw, that's one place I'll skip. I'd rather take Ft. Bragg, NC There's an old saying. Once a soldiers goes to Ft. Campbell, his or her ass will always come back.
@manhalen70462 жыл бұрын
You're out of your gdamn mind, youd take shithole Bragg? Campbell is much smaller, more intimate, Nashville a kick ass city to hang out in is an hour away, parts of KY are beautiful. We trained did some training at Bragg with the 82nd and it was a friggin dump.

I tip my hat to anyone who wants to assist the protection of freedom in their country, but is that really what they are doing. U.S Army as had so much flaws in history and even current flaws which are sick. The U.S. Army doesn't want peace, they want a war to fight.
