I’m 41 years old, I thought I’d been through a lot, and it’s hard not to look back and feel hard done by sometimes. Jesus, you grabbed me by the back of my collar and shamed me for sometimes feeling sorry for myself. Your mother was clearly one hell of a woman, to raise you until 10 to be so articulate and such a warrior. You made me smile in such a defiant way at all the bad in the world. A ten year old managed to win against such evil and you will achieve all you want and desire. You’re an inspiration young lady and the police officers who helped you are heaven sent.
@nancyolson34179 ай бұрын
Robin, I used to constantly bounce my legs. I used to zone out. I used to have my heart beat out of my chest when I thought about or talked about my trauma. I used to not trust. What changed? I finally was in a place in my life where I felt safe enough emotionally that I could go to "Trauma Counseling". Trauma Counseling is very different from regular counseling or psychiatry. My trauma counselor was Dr. Sgt. Denny Conroy, St Paul, MN. He was both a police officer and a trained trauma counselor. I spent 4 years bit by bit, as I felt strength to do it, talking about what happened; healing bit by bit as I talked it out of me. Healing with a safe person who got me. All of those symptoms of trauma are gone now. It is extremely painful and you have to feel ready emotionally to tackle trauma counseling, but it is worth it! I hate people telling me I am a survivor. I did survive but I am so much more than just a survivor. God bless, Robin.

I was shot 7 times by a jealous bf, obviously survived, he didn't. I didn't realise that I had PTSD until by accident I was sent to a great psy many years later, who was experienced in trauma counseling. It was the best thing I did. I went on to be an alpinist, trekker, successful in my work - just didn't have kids for obvious reasons but am now a happy mom and Granny to an African family. God bless Robin - she's a very strong young lady and kudos to the police who were there for her.
@Speakfordemocracy9 ай бұрын
Your comment was sooo insightful!! I’m glad she has the support system she has in her life!! I hope your message gets to her somehow, someway. She said she only trusts law enforcement, perhaps she could get in contact with who helped you or someone retired in her circle could be there with her to walk through it. It’s unfortunate that she’s not ready to face the pain of the trauma yet, because it’s painful to see her struggle as you observed. Because once she does, and she gets some relief, a little healing, and some tools, I can really see her helping children all over the world if she wants. She could be driven to a career in law enforcement, if she so chooses. My greatest hope for her is healing. Because, I’d love for her to be set free from the pain, so she can move forward, help others and do exactly what that officer said he wants to live to see!!!

@hollydaugherty26209 ай бұрын
@@jonathanstephens7015Eh, I think it's completely natural to feel that way in her situation. There's no way to "process" some things. Life can be a nightmare for a lot of humans and it's okay to feel scared. Life is scary in a lot of ways. No amount of counseling removes reality.
@jonathanstephens70159 ай бұрын
That’s not true. Solid therapy can improve one’s mental outlook. Trauma manifests in humans with startlingly similar outcomes. These are treatable and the processes have helped countless people overcome their trauma. Sure, you are correct that life is sometimes scary. That’s unavoidable and worse for some people. Having your family annihilated in front of you is as bad as it gets. That should not be a life sentence for this young woman. She can and hopefully will learn some coping skills to overcome all that burdens her. The fact that she so vehemently declares she doesn’t need therapy is a great indicator that she likely does. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if she someday engages in self destructive behaviors if she doesn’t confront her darkest emotions. Either way, I wish her well and hope her life is long and prosperous.

I cried… 🥺 Familiar tears. Because I have also lost most of my family to tragic circumstances. 😔 My mom. My dad. My sisters. My grandpa. My uncles. My brother in laws. My step dad. I was nine years old when my mom died. From that point, it’s like dominoes continued to fall every couple of years. Car accident after car accident. Now I am 52 years old. To this day I still have my moments where I am still the nine year old little boy… sitting by my mom’s casket…. desperately wanting her to “wake up”. It’s such a painful, cold and silent void. To Robin, The right thing to say to someone who is grieving and overcoming trauma can be a tricky thing. Through all of the tragic funerals that I have had to sit through, I have heard it all. Sorry for your loss… God has a plan… Remember the good times… They may be gone but you still have their memories…. You will see them again some day…. Don’t be sad because they are in heaven now…. For me, none of those words brought me any sort of comfort. 😔 It seems that you have a beautiful bunch of people supporting you. Your positive and loving spirit is heart warming and inspirational. When you have those moments of sadness, loneliness and grief… …. please know that you are not alone. 🥹 I hold on to the thought that some day… all of the wrongs will be made right. Most of all, I hope that I can one day experience the embrace of my mom again. 🕯️✨

40:18 my goodness! These are some absolute amazing people! God bless them all! All the ones who’ve surrounded Robin! The officers! All the LEO especially Chad the first one that arrived on scene that tragic day! This man at this time stamp (I apologize I don’t know his name) but when he said he prays he lives long enough to see why the good Lord kept Robin here because it had to be for something great! My heart just melted! They all made me cry! And the Prosector! She absolutely loves Robin as well! And her friend! I think Robins strength comes from having so much love and support as well….of course her Momma and Step Daddy clearly instilled some amazing values in this young woman and it’s so obvious to see when you hear her speak and just the way she carries herself but especially when you hear her on the 911 call and just how she articulates herself at such a young age back then! Goes to show how she was being raised and it’s just such a damn shame that that monster stole her family from her! And then gets to enjoy three meals every day and a place to lay his head! So I pray he’s haunted every night by all six of the lives he stole! And even that innocent dogs life! May he never know a moments peace! And then burn in hell with the devil in the afterlife!

This video reminds me of the phrase "it takes a village to raise a child". It's a beautiful example of how an entire Community or "village" came together to provide a safe, healthy environment for Robin Doan. When she spoke, they listened and took her seriously. Everyone worked together to provide a safe, healthy environment for her and as a result she has developed into a stable young woman who undoubtedly will realize her hopes and dreams. Every single person featured in this video is a hero and they demonstrate the good that can be accomplished when we treat others with compassion and kindness💟

Further, she has made an indelible difference in the lives of so many (as was attested to in this video) and I know these are just the top of the iceberg! God bless you, Robin!

My son and daughter in law are police officers and they would do something like this. My son was called to a college in town to look for a newborn baby. He found the deceased infant in a dumpster and sat in the corner of the dumpster holding the baby and crying when the other officers found him. He was so traumatized he still talks about finding the newborn and wrapped it in his jacket trying to keep it warm. People don’t realize what these officers go through every time they walk out the door. I’m so proud of him and his wife. They are such good people.

What she called being supersticious is PTSD and her not wanting therapyis CPTSD. Therapy in her situation can retraumatize her. She's an amazing woman with a long road of healing ahead. Some things will never be the same when evil like this enters your life. It will take years to recover but to live to tell her story is powerful and she's not alone. She is so strong. I know this episode is old, but I do hope that she has changed her stance on mental healthcare. Treatment is not being weak or being pitied. She goes on to say that she doesnt need to speak to a professional, but then talks about how she has a list of “superstitions” that she has to complete before feeling safe. That is not true healing. She has done IMMENSE healing on her own, but you also need professional guidance. Just my opinion as someone who has lost both parents and was resistant to treatment. The “tough it out” mentality is not the badge of honor that you think it is

I know she said she doesn't need a therapist, but she does. Therapist don't just ask you, "How do you feel", or pat you on the back. A good therapist helps give you tools to work through your trauma, and even though she's surrounded by people who have helped her, she still needs someone to help with her phobias and ptsd.
