SOLID MOORABOOL RESERVOIR RAINBOW. July 2024

Hi All. In this video I'm fishing Moorabool Reservoir and land a solid Rainbow trout. I'm using a 6wt Fast action Fly Rod, 6wt Intermediate sinking fly line (3 - 4inches per minute sink rate), 2X Leader and 2X tippet. My point fly is the Olive damsel fly and I also have a White damsel (smelt) fly about 50cm up from the point fly. I fished the reeded areas of the lake and eventually had a take. I also tried Hepburn Lagoon earlier, but had no success there. So moved on to Moorabool Res. Both these flies are tied in an earlier video of mine, if you want to tie them. Hope you enjoy the video. Great vid as usual and a soild rainbow. Been doing well out of there on bait, cant get a hit on fly other than a few reddies. Had 5th trip to bullen merri last thur, finally fired up. Landed 3 tigers, 3 rainbows, dropped 2, and about 6 other hits all on fly. Like to see you do trip down there whe its hot. Keep up the great vids. Cheers Bass.

Hi Roy. I usually take the Ballan Daylesford Rd turn off from the Western Hwy towards Daylesford. Then turn left onto Spargo Creek Rd( It's where the closed Pub is). It's about 5 to 6km to the lake. Lake is on your right. It''s a big lake. You can't fish on the wall. You can park at the Moorabool Reservoir park or there are a few spots to park before the park. You can also access the lake from Forbes Rd if you like. Usually about a 200 metre walk to get to the water. The terrain is pretty flat and trees are far back enough to allow for good fly casting. Lovely fish but I’d be careful wading there (pretty sure you were) the rangers are red hot at Moorabool. Hate you to have a good day spoiled. Anyway, looking forward to your next video.

Thanks for the tip. I've seen them remove people from the dam wall, while I was wading once before. They did not approach me at the time. Maybe it depends on the Ranger🤷‍♂. Cheers Kraza.
