Channel changing is more your TV than your receiver. If your channel changing seems slow, turn off native mode, but the slowness would be from a TV changing resolutions (My Vizio has the same issue). The receivers will change resolutions in about 3 seconds.

They put the optical back on the HR-44 where they thought it was wise to remove it from the HR-34. It would not seem like it, but the lack of that optical port on the HR-34 made my job difficult often.

They should have given Me the HR-44! They gave Me the 34 as a "free Upgrade" from the old 21 i was still rocking. The 34 doesn't have the optical digital audio out on it.

Techs were never paid by Directv for a connection kit install. That would've been paid out by the contracting company, but never by the Directv. Directv would then reimburse the contracting company for the connection kit, but it was never required for Directv to pay out anything to techs.

Thanks for your videos. I have a model D10 that went bad. Dtv sent me a hr44-500. I had 2 coaxials going in from dish on d10. So I see 1 swn 5 connector on hr44. Getting I think it was 744 errors. Not connecting to dish I believe. Am I supposed to upgrade dish or wiring? What am I missing? Thank you.

My family and I are getting the Genie from DirecTV on Tuesday. Have had Dish Network for over a decade. I have a question, I enjoy recording programs into my current Dish Network DVR and then hooking an external hard drive into the DVR and transferring those programs into the external hard drive for permanent storage so I can watch my programs years later. Have heard DirecTV doesn't exactly work that way. Have heard you can hook an external to it but that it takes the place of the internal. My question is this, once I hook the External into the Genie and that drive fills up I can buy another external and continue the process and still keep all the recordings on the first external. Is this correct or incorrect??

I think theoretically it could work like that, but I have never heard of anyone using the dvr that way.

there is a way you can transfer things from a computer to them and stream things after you go through a crazy setup. but the usb ports on the receivers pretty much do nothing. i work there and people always ask if there is a way to keep their recording from the old DVR and transfer it to the new one and there is not. so an external drive most likely wont do anything for you either, and the genie has a 1TB hard drive! why in the hell does any person need to record and keep that much shit?? thats just pointless

You can't use a card for any other receiver with this one, but it comes with its own card.

hi! im thinking of getting one of hose hdmi streaming stick things like the chromcast. i wanted to know since all or most of the boxes you showed has an hdmi to put the sticks in, will the service work for both direct tv and chromcast? Can I actually use it through the dvr? I have the genie one i think the big one on the bottom lol.

HDMI is a "directional" technology. There are things that go "out" like Chromecast and your DVR, and things that go "in" like your TV. Unfortunately you can't hook a Chromecast to your DVR, nothing will happen.
