This shows how a little prompt can help the game experience a lot. I love how complex the MGS3 CQC system is but what it kills it for me is you're kinda on your own on what to do and it feels sluggish and unreliable; I even beat the game using only guns and the 3 hit combo. But with prompts like in MGSV it feels like everything "snaps" and the system feels more responsive.

@RyanCogar3 жыл бұрын
1:28 ahh yes the ole' Nikita slap. A true classic.
Missed a few. I'm sure others have said it but in MGS2, Twin Snakes (Shares its engine mechanics with MGS2 after all), and of course MGS3 in first person you can punch people in the groin to knock them out in a single hit. For whatever reason if you hit them from behind on the ass, that works too. MGS4 allowed you to disarm enemies I believe by pressing R1 after grabbing them, you'll pull their arms back and they drop their weapon. This may have been an MGO thing, but I don't remember now, since it's been so long. I don't really count it as CQC, but I guess the hold-up groin squeeze thing during a hold-up counts as physical contact at least. CQC's kinda been a mixed bag actually! In my opinion definitely hit its peak around MGS3, MGS4. But while every entry onwards did advance it in certain mechanics, there were also some steps back I personally believe. It doesn't seem like just a clean step forward. Despite that, I think every game still has a few interesting technical tricks for each system. Like the tranquilizer knockouts for MGS2/TTS and groin punches. MGS3 and MGS4 are basically the same, but MGS4 is obviously more refined with much greater freedom. From what I've seen of Peace Walker, it did a lot better for overall throws, but seemed to cut back on everything else that MGS4 had brought on when it comes to actually holding onto an enemy. MGSV was a bit of a hybrid, an improvement between Peace Walker and MGS4, with a better return on holding enemies, and attacks from all stances, but it still felt a little lacking. Particularly because of the whole multi-tier stun system that made a combo punch the single-longest knockout time for your CQC attacks. Personally I just miss prone holds from MGS4. Hilarious, but it was actually practical sometimes.
@SomeGuy_Somewhere Жыл бұрын
I just like the way mgs 3/4 cqc looks vs the more heavy handed throws & punches of peace walker/V. In mgs 3/4 it looks like some type of fluid judo/aikido that uses momentum & balance while V it's like snake is just slamming his fist & shoulders into the enemy.

Hopefully i'm not the only one that noticed, but, somehow CQC in The Pantom Pain is badly implemented, but in Ground Zeroes works pretty good. For example: -Consecutive CQC: in GZ you can do a small pause of about 0.15 secondes before giving another punch, whereas in PP you cannot pause. Also, pressing the CQC button 5 times in GZ is enough, in PP you have to press it multiple times. -Throws: in GZ, if you pull the stick/move to a specific side and press the CQC button, a specific throw will be done, in PP the throws are random. -Throws against walls/Off cliffs or roffs: in GZ you just needed to move towards the wall or cliff and press the CQC button and snake would smash the enemy to the wall or throw him down a cliff. In PP is really hard to do this. -Slit throat: in GZ, you could press the KILL button when interrogating and Snake would do so while holding his knife down his throat. In PP, Snake has to put away his knife and slit throat afterwards. Although, PP has a lot of improvements, i really missed and hated they were not implemented. Good video, mate

You can also have quiet shoot the target that you have in your hold, it’s pretty sadistic but satisfying

You missed the other counter CQC with enemies and Skulls in MGSV. Definitely worth adding

I really like when it introduce CQC from cover. In previous games it was pretty complicated to knock off some guard coming towards you while against a wall without triggering the alarm.

I was surprised at how fast snake was in those consecutive punches in mgsv.

So it looks like to me that solid snake has some taekwondo skills meanwhile big boss prefers his judo. Which actually makes sense considering the two different time periods.

Noahs Combat Club Also makes sense considering Solid Snake didn't use CQC again until MGS4

I've played MGSV for really long amounts of time and didn't know that disarms, cover throws, and prone attack 2 existed.

No 1 hit stun combo. No Raiden 4 hit combo. No nut punches. No MGS3 Boss counter CQC. No MGS4 vs Liquid CQC.

The strategy guide for MGS3 got how CQC works wrong. They thought that the throat slit was timing based, when really it was pressure level based. So they told you to let go of the circle button to avoid immediately slitting an enemies throat, when really, you just had to hold it down with less pressure than you would to slit someone's throat. They also got how to use CQC against The Boss wrong. They said to just mash the circle button when it works better to time your circle button presses. Its actually a really good system that is nuanced enough that even people who write strategy guides get it wrong.

Technically, up to MGS4, Solid Snake refused to use CQC (as in, the judo-style technique of Big Boss), so CQC itself starts on Snake Eater

Do a video on hold ups in the game. Remember to mention how in peace walker they'll lie on the ground for ever until an alarm is raised and in phantom pain they often try and be sneaky
