Solidarity during cave rescue is simply a way of life in Thailand’s humble villages

The selflessness shown by ordinary Thais - particularly villagers from Mae Sai and nearby places - in coming forward to volunteer their time and efforts have impressed a global audience fixated on the rescue operations. So much so that it threatened to overshadow the mission itself, at times.

This experience has moved people around the world, it gave us an opportunity to see how beautiful humanity can be when we empathize with others. Thailand has shown the world strength, resilience and comadre.

Most Thai people are kind, generous and help those who needs help without expecting anything in return. It is the culture and Buddhist way of thinking. The preaching of the Bhudda play the important role of Thai culture. We started from offering foods and other things to the monks every morning. Children, when they got a job they will support parents and look after them till they die. So elderly in Thailand don’t feel lonely like other western countries where elderly live in the nursery home. Thais feel good when we help someone. When we die we will rest in peace. We believe if you do bad thing you have to pay back in the next life and go to hell. If you do good thing you will go to heaven. It ‘s just the belief.....I know many people have no religion especially in western countries but as long as you are a good person that matters the most. But good person also means those who does not look down on other religions and belief. I am Buddhist. Living abroad there’s no Thai temple nearby so I go to pray in Christian church.I like listening to their songs. People who go to the church in London are very kind compare to those who ‘s not attending the church.

1:21 "Separation between ethnicities, nationalities or religions is a weak society." Wow, that's the quote from an islamic housewife from a small province who volunteered. She is much much wiser than political leaders these days.

@@williamfhfh7257 This is about people. Not politics. My point is this. Thai people appear to be kind generous and loving. That his true of some. I have seen some very ugly experiences here. Here is an example... I see people here injured or in need of medical assistance lying on sidewalks. Thais step over them or walk around them... absolutely no compassion. I have seen this with my own eyes. The point i am making is that what you see here is not real Thai culture.

In thailand, It is quite common that when some parts of the country faced natural disasters, people from the other parts will reach to the areas to assist in providing food and aid supplies. We just cannot ignore them or let the government deal with the issue alone.

This is my experience: Thailand is a often a rather chaotic country. Many people don't plan, don't think about the future, don't worry, and don't care much for what the other person does. But when it comes hard, they suddenly can be the excellent planners, work diligent, show perfect teamwork, and be one of the toughest kind of people.

Peter Kroll Speaking as a Thai person, you’re right, especially in the city. Not so much in the upcountry, though. Just to think about why we are what we are, being generous, helpful and all. One of the reason I think is that we were unconsciously taught by our ex leader. He led by examples for over 60 years. This is what we learn from watching him tirelessly helping his people everyday for so many years. So when the time come, we all know what to do. Being helpful to other. That’s all.

Why the Thai people loved their king so much and stand united to him is something many outsiders do not understand. The same for me. Only after years of traveling to Thailand I understand. Even nowadays do see in some of the small agricultural company on the countryside the late effect of his work, something that can not be noticed by outsiders. I have never thought about it but it seems you are right. He was a leader by good example, and that is what many people learned.

I think many people can watch the video. When Thai people respect the flag at 08.00and 18.00, you can see that everyone is busy with their own lives. But when the nation needs help, people will leave everything and do it for the nation. This is the strength of Thailand มาเที่ยวบ้านฉันสิ Welcome to Thailand

I think that Thais pull together at important times because in earlier times as rice farmers that's what the community would have needed to do. Pull together to get the villagers harvest in or start the planting.
