@@Stodolnya not on the earth, but at the planetary scale yes. Gravity holds the atmosphere close to the surface, and the density is a gradient because the force weakens as you get further from the surface. There is no precise point at which atmosphere stops and space begins, indeed we lose a small amount of the atmosphere to space every year. But since this explanation is already widely available to you i suspect you will continue to ignore it, perhaps with justification that gravity is not a thing🙃

looks cool, but its too small to really display next to the Saturn V, in reality they are only 13m / 42 feet apart (98m vs 111m). Thats not really an issue tho, the bigger issue is that stickers are used. No display model should ever have stickers period. Thats why the Saturn V is one of the few actually great sets of the recent years because it looks great, is a good price and has no stickers
@dennismoon6693

Agreed. Even setting aside its status as a display piece, there must be some price point at which Lego is willing to say "We will go the extra mile and use only printed pieces, no stickers." I don't know where exactly that point lives (and obviously it will have to increase with time) , but it should definitely be well under this set's $260 pricetag.

I got this one as a present from my friends. I was not expecting a LEGO. I don't have a vested interest in them, I do like them a lot, but I have other financial priorities, so my experience was limited to watching my girlfriend build them and doing it together with her sometimes (she is a big LEGO enjoyer). This was my first ever LEGO that I am going to build by myself. I have not finished it yet, I'm about 3/4 quarters done with the launch pad, but I have to say, out of all the LEGOs I have seen and experienced with my girlfriend, this one is honestly the greatest value for the money you pay. It's such a nice, historical piece with so much interactivity and detail. Other pieces are way more expensive but give you way less in terms of what you can actually do. We have the Eiffel Tower aswell which is honestly only impressive because of its raw size, but other than a "cool I guess" it doesn't really get much more out of me. It looked very tedious to build aswell. Granted this one is pretty tedious aswell, I lost count how many times I sighed when turning the book's page to see another repeating section for the lift xD

Im really, really excited about this set. I've built several sets partially with my daughter; Concorde, Saturn V, the Lunar Lander and Rivendell. They've all been great, but this is an opportunity to build something with her that is actually current. I can imagine holding on to it for a few years until they're actually ready to go to the moon, and it would become the most amazing educational experience for her and her brother too as he'd be old enough to join in. The SLS block 2 (cargo version) is actually a bit bigger than the saturn v, and a meter taller. The block 1 (this lego set) is a bit shorter. But the diameter is much closer than what we got. I don’t think they are to scale, especially when you consider that the appollo service module and the orion one are supposed to be of a similar size.

Thanks for showing off this great set! The designers knocked it out of the park. FWIW, calling this launch vehicle "The Artemis" is incorrect. Artemis is the mission designation, Orion is the crewed vehicle, and the launch vehicle is called the Space Launch System, or SLS. Also, the SLS in the configuration represented in this set is only slightly shorter in stature than the Saturn V vehicle, so the scale of these two sets is not close. A big kudos...your production quality is excellent, as always!
@STS-Dreamer
@STS-Dreamer 7 ай бұрын
eh it’s really not that crazy to call it the “Artemis SLS” or just Artemis as a shorthand for the SLS & Orion stack, the Saturn V was similarly called the Apollo rocket when in its actual stack with the CSM and LM on top (and this is by actual members of NASA not just laymen using the program name as a shorthand).

Its pretty typical. Unless its a really special piece or a cone, they don’t seem to like to print unless the design is used more than twice in the set, or they plan on using it on multiple sets. Saturn V Rocket’s body features four of each printed part that isn’t a conical piece. Artemis’s body doesn’t repeat anything more than twice. For example the solar panels on the module are printed, used 4 times in this set, and have use in other sets.

When the large Shuttle Adventure and Shuttle Expedition sets came out (around 2010) I started building a Mobile Launch Platform and launch tower for the Shuttle Adventure, with the intent to build the Transporter/Crawler too. When the Saturn V came out I was surprised that the Shuttle(s) and Saturn V were "pretty close" to the same scale. The Shuttle Orbiter is way oversized on both sets, but the overall height of the Shuttle stack and Saturn V were close to the same scale. I could have used the same MLP for both rockets. I'm disappointed to see that this Artemis set is much smaller than those sets. I bought a bag of1x6x4 "girder" pieces, that are on the edges of the base of the Artemis set, for use in my designs They are way too small for the scale of the Shuttles and Saturn V. The SRBs are also smaller than the Shuttle stack too. Which is too bad. I know this keeps part count and price down, but still. It would have been nice to have all the major eras of the US Space Program to be in similar scale in LEGO.

in reality the rockets differ by only 13 meters so the scale is quite a bit different. In my opinion a good way to compare is the core diameter: The real Saturn V is 10 meters, SLS is 8.4 meters, while the lego models are 12 and 6 studs respectively. To be to scale, the SLS would've had to be over 10 studs in diameter, but at that scale include the launchtower would've probably been too expensive.

The current version of the SLS rocket for Artemis I, II, & III is only 98 meters tall. So obviously its not in-scale with the Saturn V model. Starting with Artemis IV NASA is switching to the Block 1B rocket which will be 110 meters, same as Saturn V. The taller Block 1B also comes with a taller launch pad with some design changes for the bigger rocket.

That much of flexibility is not really necessary. It is not much of a heavy structure so there isn't too much of a stress induced on the parts. Also, the natural frequency that you excited of the set seems pretty low, although since nobody will inflict some kind of base excitation with that much of a low frequency it seems safe.

I just finished building mine and I have to be brutally honest, the ONLY enjoyable part for me was building the rocket. Building the launch pad was an absolute nightmare as I have never been a fan of repetition. I feel like there could’ve been a lot of saved time by multiplying step sections more in the instructions. Rather than scratching along the way section by section of the tower. I also love AND hate how half the booster pieces are printed and half need stickers. I’ll never be able to understand LEGO’s logic when determining which pieces get what kind of stickers. At the end of the day, it really is a beautiful and fun set to display or *whoosh around lol

Unfortunately, the problems revealed with the Orion capsule after Artemis-1, combined with SpaceX Human Landing System (HLS) still in early development, the landings will more than likely be delayed to 2027 or 2028.

To not mention that if something happens... I could see this set with sad feelings all my life... Personally I think this set arrived too soon.

As someone who is running out of room to put things in my collection - how do you deal with this? Where do you put these things once you have made them? What you are given and build seems to be neverending!

Just for your information: Lego 6339 also had a launch pad, many functions end even minifigs. And if building this is even more tedious than the Eiffel Tower, I will gladly skip it.

Yes it would be nice to be in scale with the Saturn model but this is a day one pick up for me. Again, rambling to get over the 10mins threshold

Artemis has 98 m and Saturn V has 110 m. However, it is a really nice video!

Awesome review! But being big isn’t an advantage, it’s actually a cons. Super big sets like this quickly occupies all your display areas unless you live in a giant house. The occupied space is an opportunity cost. So I don’t think it has excellent value just because it’s big and has a lot of pieces.
