I do this for molds all the time. build in a part file, then save the bodies out. then if the mold needs to change for whatever reason, just go back to the multibody part file, make changes, resave, and it propogates through everything. of course you could do this at the component level as well, but its handy to use multibody parts.

Thanks it worked!! I didn't know why I couldn't move bodies after importing a step file.

Very insightful. I m struggling with a part weldmet i created with an added sheetmetalfolded tray over the top... when I split it, it butchers up the tray into many separate parts also.. do you have a tutorial on dealing with this scenario?

Thank you for the great tutorial. When I use the "Save Bodies" feature SolidWorks falls (same results on the 2013 and 2015 versions) you know please tell me why? BTW: on other pc (ver2015) it works (of course not on what I need :))

Should anyone encounter the problem that I did - not being able to save as an assembly - make sure that you run SW with administrator rights! It's a tip I tracked down on Reddit but it was a life saver for me

I have created a MBP with the tubing weldment profiles. I used to split tool and created a new Assembly. I want to detail all these parts out in a drawing but I can't seem to get the right views because they are oriented to the original orgin point. Because of the coped cut I cant select end planes or create new planes.

Can you help me? If you have saved all the metal bars off as revision A: Bar1-A, Bar1-A, Bar3-A, Bar4-A Then you needed to make one change on a bar and make it revision B. How do you make a new assembly which links to this new revision B bar, but links with all the existing revisions of the parts which have not changed: Bar1-A, Bar1-B, Bar3-A, Bar4-A Thanks for any help

Thanks a lot! Do last versions of SW have a feature that allow to generate shop drawings of bodies of multibodies part (weldments)? Or maybe free macros like Drew or Task? The last one will go for subscription system soon.. but even so I couldn't handle it well enough =(
@ZmanBrownie
@ZmanBrownie 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Toвapuщ Thank you for reaching out. SOLIDWORKS does not have the ability to auto-create weldment drawings unfortunately. We do not have any macros created that will do this either. That does not mean such a thing does not exist though, we just do not have one available. Sorry for the inconvenience.

How do you get the cut list properties from the weldment part to populate the "configuration specific" file properties of the derived part file? I'm using SW 2017.

if you want to make any adjustments after this 'save bodies', do you do this in the original multibody document or the assembly file? thanks for the great tutorial!

Channel+ Thank you for the comments. This tutorial mainly covers imported parts that come over as multi-body part files. However, if you were designing a native SolidWorks multi-body part you would make changes before the "Save Bodies" feature if you wanted those changes to be propagated into the resulting assembly. With imported CAD files you are very limited as to what you can changed because the bodies are dummy solids. Also I will just go ahead and make this comment as well, the consume cut bodies option will remove the bodies from the parent multi-body part file. Consumed bodies are not listed in the FeatureManager design tree under the solid bodies folder. That is why I unchecked that option, and it doesn't work well with dummy solids. I may make another video on "Save Bodies" for SolidWorks native multi-body parts in the future to cover the settings more thoroughly, and how they act a little differently for native files. Thank you for watching.

Can you help with this please. What happens if you have ticked the 'derive resulting parts from similar bodies' option, but then you change one of the bodies in the original part file so that it is no longer identical to the bodies it was previously identical to? To keep the assembly accurate, you would need to create a new part file to represent the new unique solid body. How does this work? Many thanks for your help.

Say that that we aren't using assemblies and that these bodies are remaining as one welded part. How do we align the bodies if they are just lines that are converted into a library part? The move command?
@goengineer
@goengineer 7 жыл бұрын
Hi CB Games, If you are just trying to move bodies in a multi-body part around then you would use the 'Move/Copy' command (found under 'Insert', 'Features', 'Move/Copy') and use 'Constraints' option to move the bodies using mate definitions. This can help you to align the bodies within the part work space.

Using SW 2020 followed all the steps, doesnt work. It fails unchecks one of the parts on the list and asks me to save it and then the process repeats itself when i try to OK the save bodies feature, no idea why, the split command works like that too sometimes, i am just starting to learn the program and cant believe that there is a feature that no one knows when its working and when it isn't.

Dave T, I'm interesting in knowing how you would handle this many part files in one setting. FYI. I'm not against anyone's modeling and assembly techniques (because there are more ways to skin a cat), but I do like to know other methods.
