PEAK DISTRICT WALK FEATURING HARTINGTON, SHEEN AND PILSBURY CASTLE
"Hartington, Sheen and Pilsbury Castle”
Filmed 25th September 2021
Post-production completed 12th October 2021
Following on from my previous film, I explain a little more about what is involved in a day’s shooting for each film I make.
Filmed in the Peak District in the counties of Derbyshire and Staffordshire. Locations include Hartington, Sheen and Pilsbury Castle.
Written, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.
Special thanks to Dennis and Jan Kelsall and Peak District Online for their information used in my research for this film.
Click here for a map showing the route of the walk: osmaps.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/r...
DISCLAIMER: Although I work hard to ensure all information is correct to the best of my knowledge, I am only featuring information I have found online during my research when putting this film together, so I cannot guarantee that there are no mistakes or errors.
As with all the films I make, this is a mini-movie of my personal journey along the walk, in which I might share some of my own personal stories, and not actually intended to be a guide to the area.
If you are new to my channel, I strongly recommend reading the description under the “about” tab, which will provide a clearer understanding of what to expect in my films: / solitaryrambler
There is also a short “Introduction to the Solitary Rambler” video, which briefly explains what my films are all about: / solitaryrambler
Many thanks and I hope you enjoy watching!

Hi Patrick. Nice to see Hartington again as it reminds me of a holiday we spent based in Monyash. I rather wish that you would devote more time to the small towns and villages on your rambles for those of us for which a two hour walk would be the limit. I hope too that you will be able to venture further afield again next year. These later video are so professional it is amazing how much technology (and hard work) can achieve these days.

Lovely scenery again in this part of the limestone Peak District, Patrick. Hartington is a picturesque village with some nice local stone buildings. I'm glad that you went to Pilsbury Castle, because over the years, looking at my Peak District Ordnance Survey maps, I often wondered what this old fortress was all about. Myself and my Mrs have learnt a lot about places we've never been to, through your walks, and thanks to yourself for producing the films. A lot of your earlier videos, we've yet to watch. The subject about your camera work was very interesting, indeed, but I think we'll leave that one to you professionals. Many thanks, Patrick.

Glad you enjoyed it Ffranc. I think Pilsbury Castle looks better when you visit it as I don't feel the camera does it justice. Nice to know my films have let you and others know about other places you've not been too. Thanks again for watching and for all your kind comments Ffranc.

Another interesting walk Patrick. There’s some really nice places over in the Staffordshire side of the Peak District. Not seen the old castle remains before. Enjoying hearing about your approach to film making too. You certainly put a lot of effort into them. Must be great to have them all to look back on too. Looking forward to your walk over to Parkhouse and Chrome Hill. Two iconic hills that’s for sure. Be careful on that descent down Parkhouse though. It’s squeaky bum time is that one 😆 🙈

Many thanks Anthony, yeah it always amazes me how much quieter it is when you cross over to that side of the Dove. I'm actually enjoying giving some explanation into the film making, so I will be continuing that for a little while. I can reveal to you that I have now done Parkhouse and Chrome Hills since filming this, so that will be posted in a couple of weeks time. I do remember watching your own walk when you did them with your friend, and recall how dangerous you said Parkhouse was. All the best 👍

Great movie and loved the score too, fantastic work Patrick and thanks for sharing your filming techniques with us. I just adore unspoiled villages that have hardly changed over the years and these are no exception; I am no fan of modern towns, they don't do it for me and thats why I love living where I do in North Yorkshire and the Peak District is much the same. Thanks again for your effort and hard work.

Hi Patrick, thanks for another enjoyable film. The insight into what's involved in shooting for each film is interesting. I also think the sound on your films is really good too. Not just what you say and the music, but also how you mix it all and balance it all. That is a real skill in itself. It's amazing how many KZbinr have appaulling sound where you can't hear what they are saying (so I turn the TV up) and then the next minute, the music comes booming in leaving me frantically grabbing the TV remote. Yours is always spot on. All the best, Terry.

Funnily enough I don't get much armache. The camera and tripod are fairly light so it's not too bad really. I tend to get more backache instead some days, maybe as I'm crouching down for some shots I take, not sure. Yes this time of year is looking great now with the colours that are developing. It's very interesting how you produce your videos, Patrick. Like you say, everyone has their different methods of putting their videos out on to KZbin. Anyhow you've got your films brilliantly finished, and with the lovely music that you add of your own, both myself and my partner Christine are deeply satisfied. The video you have shown here is excellent. I've always wanted to know what this Pilsbury Castle is all about - I've seen it on Peak District maps over the years, and often wondered about it. Well, you've shown us what it is, it's quite amazing. The countryside again, on this Derbyshire/Staffordshire border is really lovely. Many thanks for this, and best of health.

Thanks again Ffranc. I decided to talk a little about how my days of filming are spent, as seen here and in a couple of other films. Glad you liked the background to Pilsbury Castle. This part of the Derbyshire/Staffordshire border is much quiter than further south, so it's nice for that too. Thanks for watching 👍

Hi Patrick. Some interesting tips about filming with tripod, but wasn't sure what length you extended your tripod or whether you have it balanced in some way on your hips? Otherwise could give arm ache holding. Also do I detect a slight change in style of music? I recognise the chord progressions here - pleasant harmonic sounds.
@solitaryrambler
@solitaryrambler 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Shanita, I always hold the tripod with both hands in those shots, but try to keep my hands out of shot so that it's not obvious that I'm doing so. So I'm not stretching my arms out basically. Thanks for the kind words on the music. Yes something different again, always trying new sounds when I get inspiration. Many thanks Shanita as always for your support 👍

We all appreciate the time you put into making these terrific walking videos as well as the skills you’ve developed along the way which make them first class. It has been very interesting to hear your tips and I also look forward to learning more about the editing process. How long does it take to upload a 20 min. video? Where I live the internet speed doesn’t allow me to upload anything more than about 3 min long. As a side note I’m so impressed that you are answering every comment - so kind!

I wouldnt expect you to try to catch up with everything I've been doing though, particularly this year as I've been churning films out like they're going out of fashion! 😊 Thanks for all your kind comments. It takes sveral hours actually to upload my videos, so what I always do is start them before I go to bed at night then they're done by the morning. I always like to try to answer every comment. Many thanks Ken. I use a tripod as I need it for taking the scenery shots, not sure a monopod would keep the shots steady enough. I hold the tripod with both hands as out of shot as I can so hopefully it's not too obvious I'm carrying one 👍
