This was an amazing solo camping experience I had on Mooselookmeguntic Lake in Rangeley, Maine. I spent 4 days at a remote campsite in my own private cove. For anyone who is interested, I recommend checking out Cupsuptic Campground and the remote camping opportunities they provide. There are several more campsites along the remote lakeshore, as well as various island sites. This is also a perfect place to hear the haunting echoes of a loon call or even see a moose. Thank you for watching!

I miss the loons. I miss northern WI where I used to see them. You have a beautiful channel, sir.

Maine has so many cool lakes. East grand has some great spots like this that you can kayak in. Thanks for great video.

I've paddled all over the great state of Maine, Rangeley area included but the canoe is my favorite boat ( solo w/double blade paddle is amazing). You can bring more gear for remote spots ;-) We share the love of loons, and the eagles will pick the babies right off the parents backs, hence my less than affectionate view of them despite this all being part of nature. Will be retiring to ME lakeside to hear these beautiful creatures as long as I am able!! Paddle steadily 🙂

That’s awesome! I really want to start doing some portage trips. Just have to pick and choose with the time I have. Retiring lakeside in Maine to the sound of loons sounds just right. I may one day do the same! Thanks for watching!

Awesome vid, man 🤜🤛The sound of loons on a lake gives me literal goosebumps. Maine in general gives me goosebumps. Don't mean to sound corny but it's truly a magical wonderland. 💜

Wow dude you got some videos, you really get around. Where were you on Rangeley lake? The north shore is town and mostly private land, the south shore has the state park. You got some nice spots and some great views
@mikewanders

Thank you! I kind of think it was the south shore. The primitive camp sites are operated by Cupsuptic campground.

Lovely video. Looks like a great trip. The one thing that I don't get is why the boat collection and drop off if your car we so near (at least when leaving)? It seems like the boat was taking you further from your car than nearer!

Thanks man! Yeah originally I tried to leave my car near the camping spot which was like only a couple mile hike away, but I couldn’t find the road. Also by using the boat drop off I was able to bring a kayak with me

Thanks Ryan! This is in Rangeley Maine on Lake Mooselookmeguntic. Cupsuptic campground operates several remote campsites on the far side of the lake. This particular one was “Smudge Cove”

Hey this was really awesome! I used to spend a summer week over at stephen phillips usually on toothacher. Last year of that was 2018. Hoping to get back to it this year! I had a question though. Did you bearbag your food on this trip or ursack or canister? Just curious. Cuz I’ll probably stay at a cupsuptic backcountry site also. Thsnks man! NQU

I LOVE Stephen Phillips. Been there a few times and can’t wait to return. I used an Ursack for my food. I actually also brought a bear keg filled with beer lol…clearly that wasn’t necessary but I didn’t need to carry it anywhere. Thanks for watching!

@@mikewanders Ha! Good times! The last trip i did at phillips was 2018 and i had to ration my beer to only 8 per night! I was a hurtin unit with only 8 per night. I’m now a severe alcoholic in recovery and have been since Halloween of that same year. This last 4.5 years has been really tough but ive done the work and I’m in a much better place these days. Camping sober was a huge adjustment but I’ve got it down.👍🏼. I’m always a work in progress. Hey thanks again for your stuff here. I gotta say you and the Mrs really took on a lot with that trip in yellowstone! My goodness!! Hats off to you two! Take care man! NQU

So I tried to find pull-offs on Moose Alley by Mooselookmeguntic but there aren't any. Looks like the only access is via one of the dirt roads marked as camping. True?? Did you see any moose during your trip?
@mikewanders
@mikewanders Жыл бұрын
Pull-offs for camping? And yeah I saw moose on the drive up. Rt 16 all the way from Berlin NH to Stratton Maine is prime moose habitat and nearly guaranteed sightings if you drive it at dusk
@TheINFJChannel
@TheINFJChannel Жыл бұрын
@@mikewandersthanks for responding 😊 i was cruising the strip trying to see Mooselookmeguntic but couldn't find anywhere to pull over. I figured maybe the only access to the water was off one of the side roads, but all the side roads went to camping sites. It didn't look like the lake had public access. I'm looking for property around the Rangeley area or by Moosehead Lake so I love galavanting around Maine though I reside in NH. Anything with 'moose' in the name, I'm in! Route 16 is a little moose haven. I see them frequently by Umbagog and the Androscoggin.
@mikewanders
@mikewanders Жыл бұрын
@@TheINFJChannel yeah I’m not sure about direct water access to the lake. I do know there’s an epic overlook of the lake on RT 17. I too would love property in the Rangeley area!

@@mikewanders re: epic overlook- Height of Land comes to mind. I forget where it's at but it's by Rangeley. Yes? It's on my list for spring/summer '23 🤜🤛 And property by Rangeley makes me shit a brick. Shit's expensive 😳

You mentioned moose and dogs.....Last May we went hammock camping for the first time, and was our first time doing a hike in as opposed to canoe in. The morning of day 2 I hear these odd footsteps and I thought thats weird the gf shouldnt be drunk yet lol. I look out and see these 4' tall legs beside my fucking hammock!! A moose and her calf have made there way in to our site to camp with us. They eventually got spooked and took off because the gf was taking pics as i was actively shitting my pants. The dog at the site about 400m south of us was a big mastiff and its bark was unreal, especially across the water. The moose and her calf came back 3 times because the dog would not let them pass where they were headed, i thought for sure she was going to get angry and just mow us down. The cow tripped over the guy line of my tarp the same time the calf tripped over my gfs. They took off for good then. I was so angry at the 2 at that site with the dog, we could have been killed for sure. If youre interested in seeing the pics of the moose beside me in the hammock check out my IG j.eastcott1604. The post is 7 lines down. This is not a plug or spam or something just a story I thought Id share. Take care. Be safe

That is SO awesome! Definitely a little sketchy having the moose that close tho haha. I’ve certainly had my close calls. In the Tetons they walked through our campsite as well. The ground would rumble with each step and I could hear the Bull making sounds as they passed the tent. Pretty cool. But they do definitely hate dogs!

Why are people so doubting of other peoples word? Like unless i know someone to be a compulsive lier ill more than likely give them the benefit of the doubt as i would appreciate anyone doing for me, why is it so hard to believe a moose charged you? People are morons and that's why im an intrevert and will stay so.
