It's just awesome that a composer like this is showing us his work, thank you really much. Is it possible to show us your work from the Lando's Closet Piece? It is lovely!

i've identified mr. John Powell as the most fascinating Hollywood composer around 10 years ago. When i first heard Bourne's soundtrack. I'm glad i was lucky enough to bump onto his name. We can expect more great things to come, I'm looking forward to them ..

If there's anything I've learned from a Powell score it's that if you want action, you use a LOT of sixteenths-some extra spice, triplets. :)

This and "Reminiscence Therapy" together made for the best action scoring of 2018. You are even more awesome for putting this up for all to see. Thank you.

I wonder how much of the mock ups were mixed into the final mixes. I've certainly worked on a few projects where it was pretty much 50/50, with the mix favoring the live elements. I am assuming a lot of the percussion is sampled based versus live. Just a guess but it would be cool to know if this practice is occurring even in the highest level projects.
@carlpowell05 жыл бұрын
yeah interesting point. im curious now too.
@bencostello74355 жыл бұрын
I would think there's some of the sampled instruments in the final mix, even, or maybe especially at this level on a project of such orchestral complexity, although to be fair I've definitely never worked on a project at this level.

He said that he rarely puts demos into the final mix
@jakegearhart4 жыл бұрын
On a blockbuster like Solo, it seems like 95%+ of the score is the live recordings. With the orchestras they use, there's almost nothing that sounds better with digital instruments.

correct me if i'm wrong but I think the "final mix" parts are real orchestra playing. Meaning that it's not entirely a mockup.
@kylewaselewski4 жыл бұрын
Correct - I'm assuming final mix indicates the version that ended up in the film while demo is the sampled mockup

@@kylejudkins754 Did you mean transcribe? Yeah! I did, is the best practice for learn orchestration...I usually transcribe many things for my students, this is a perfect piece for explain modal exchange, diminished scale and block chord parallels. I used a fragment (like 5 bars) and then I make a development of this for an opening that I made for a concert with the Medellín Philharmonic. Then I will upload, all the best
