There's a bit of ambiguity regarding the number of deaths on Crib Goch. Some sources say 8-10 deaths a year, others say 1-3. Either way, the conclusion I reached is that the high number of deaths on Crib Goch are predominantly due to its popularity and high levels of traffic, rather than it being the most 'difficult' ridge to traverse. Thanks for watching ✌️

Statistics such as number of deaths are highly misleading, the annual number of deaths on Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) are quoted as about 12, this includes medical reasons as well as falls, whilst the deaths on Crib Goch are about 2. Mountain rescue are called out about 200 times a year, which about 12 are cragfast rescues on crib Goch, where people have started the ascent or traverse and are too distressed to continue or go back. Weather and visibility, which can change very quickly, coupled with sometimes high numbers of people, can make this exposed ridge a very challenging trip. Even on a fine day, a light breeze in the Pen y Pass carpark, can be an uncomfortable wind across the ridge, beware!

Too many times when I’ve been up there over the last 30 years there have been people that really should not have been up there….. a young mum and dad with their six-year-old daughter dressed in Sunday best and sandals…. And the numerous folk that are testing their fear of heights freaking out as they crawl along….. at worst this mountain demands respect knowledge, confidence without any flippancy whatsoever… these mountains may appear static but they are constantly crumbling, throw in the weather which can change on a dime….and anyone’s safety is at increased risk. And Kerr nice to see and hear your enthusiasm…. It’s good to see but honestly on terrain like this make sure you have both hands free to potentially save your neck should you slip!

@JoseDuthie14 Respectfully, I was commenting on the incidents and hazards on Yr Wyddfa and Crib Goch and not comparing it with anywhere else. I assume that when you say `Scotland is way more dangerous' you don't mean the country as a whole. Seriously though, people should consider their capabilities, personal equipment and the weather conditions, before attempting anything similar to Crib Goch, as other have to risk their safety to rescue them or worse still, retrieve their bodies.

Whilst undoubtedly a hazardous route, I believe calling it the most deadly ridge in the UK is a bit misleading as it only gets the most fatalities due to a combination of its popularity as well as its danger. Ridges like Aonach Eagach, Liathach, or the ridges of the Black Cullin on Skye probably would be considered more deadly if they were as popular as Crib Goch.

Turtle Mtn. in the Crowsnest pass of the Rocky Mtns has a barrow ridge like that. It takes 2.5 hrs to climb and 20 mins to run down. A big chunk of the mountain slid off and buried the village of Frank killing 90 a century ago. Coal miners were trapped inside, dug their way out to find their wives and children dead,

Crib goch isn’t a particularly difficult scramble (still a grade 1, scrambles are graded from 1 up to 3 in the UK). However it is rather exposed in parts and in bad weather that also pushes up the risk. The main reason it’s considered dangerous is how popular it is. People who wouldn’t normally scramble may end up doing crib goch because of its fame and location on Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon).

this is a great ridge if you are confident in you abilities, although, having climbed this and Aonach Eagach, I would say that Aonach Eagach is more daunting , not as many deaths probably due to its popularity. if you want to try ridge hiking then Aonach Eagach , Liatach and An Teallach are suitably scary as well, the aptly named CRAZY PINNACLES are an experience not to be missed. enjoy and stay safe.

Actually the highest drops are about 300 metres, the height of Crib Goch above sea level is roughly 900 metres. You still wouldn't want to fall off though. You were lucky, perfect weather, no wind and no crowds. I have seen people going up in flip flops and Farah slacks with not a clue of what they were doing, most of the fatalities are people completely unprepared who just thought it would be a nice stroll up to the top. Then the tabloids wrongly report "Climber Killed on Snowdon!"

I think unfortunately the reason for the deaths are because there is this stigma that you have only done the ridge if you walk it as in this video. So a gust catches you of guard, and you become rock paint ! It mayn't seem"difficult", but the real difficulty is surviving the loose rocks. One rock goes and that's it, you are on your way to joining all those other over confident lost souls... Nice video though. Well done.

I did that ridge in Speedo’s and Crocs. Blindfolded. On a unicycle with a puncture. At night In high wind and thick cloud. With Hawkwind on headphones. Under the influence of multiple illegal drugs and alcohol. Towing a sailing dinghy. With the sail up.

We did Crib Goch around 3 years ago, was an amazing day out. One of our lads Shane who was scared of heights attempted it with us, he was doing great until he had a full on melt down on the knife edge ridge around a third of the way across it, he completely froze in a state of panic, tears and everything, it took us almost 45 minutes to settle him down and talk him through it.....he eventually proceeded onwards and the LEGEND even managed to finish the rest of the Route, The man was a proper inspiration ... I am confident at Bouldering so have steady hands and feet, yet at points it was unnerving even for me so the fact Shane managed it after the meltdown was something else.. Respect the mountain if you respect your life.

Did it from the Llanberis end in 30 degrees C, aged 64. Had 3ltrs of water and ran out before descending down to the pyg track. Got cramp in both legs halfway across the ridge. Some electrolytes later helped me back on my feet! Scrambles are relatively easy (had to do all the pinnacles of course) if you take the right route but have to admit I dropped a few feet on the most exposed part for about 50ft!
