I’ve hiked pieces of the Pin Chin Sky loop. Once I have all my gear, I can do the loop! I agree. I think the woods are pretty when it’s foggy and misty.

Thank you! I've missed making them. I hope to be more consistent than I was in this past year at making them!

Would you recommend out and back day hike to McDill point from Cheha Trailhead or drop off at Cheha Trailhead and pick up at AL 281 Parking?
@TaylorCarter5 жыл бұрын
You're going to have a great time. Those trails are so much fun.

@@jlathe3 I really liked hiking it from point to point but if it's a clear day, an out and back from Cheaha Trailhead to McDill Point would be a great hike too because there are some great views/lookout points right next to the trail along the way. Honestly, I think it'd be a great day hike either way...

Taylor Carter thank you! Have you thought about doing your sit down and talk style videos about the Pinhoti?

Hi Taylor. I watched and enjoyed your video of this section. Background: I lived in Birmingham in the 90s, and day hiked each section of the Pinhoti Trail, as it existed prior to my moving to the Atlanta area. Then, it was from the trailhead on AL 77, between Talladega and Ashland up to somewhere north of US 278 east of Piedmont, AL (If I remember right). At that time, it was not in GA. Blazes: The blazes existed (Pinhoti symbol vs. Blue rectangular blaze) through the new Cheaha Wilderness at that time. The Odum, Chinabee, and Nubbin Creek trails were ALL blazed properly in those days. I then read that the Forest Service decided to blot out the blazes for those trails in the wilderness. The Pinhoti was hard enough to follow in those days, as one went south by trail from McDill Point to the intersection with the Odum and Chinabee trails. This was especially true in the rocky area on that part. I can imagine how bad it is now. As a long-time hiker on the AT (have made it 1000 miles thus far), I have walked thru many Forest Wilderness areas and the AT white blazes were still there and updated as needed. There was NO reason for the Talladega office to remove the blazes. The Wilderness act does not mandate such, as far as I know. Odum Trail: At one time, this was an awesome trail that intersected with the Pinhoti at Caney Head (I think that was right). In the 90s, there was actually a shelter there. It was later moved to a location on the Chinabee Trail. I've heard that the Odum and equally-nice Nubbin Creek trails have fallen into disrepair because of the desire of the Talladega office to make them more "wild". VERY unfortunate mis-guided policy. I welcome other's comments. God Bless

Good to see you guys out and about. Great video. I talked with your dad a few minutes, and spoke to you when you were making your video in Torreya State park a year or two ago. The park took a beating in the hurricane. Last time I was over there, there was only 1/2 mile of Blue Blaze trail open to the public.

Thanks, Larry I heard about that and it's really unfortunate about the state of the trails at Torreya after the hurricane. I've really missed that place this year. It has such fun and unique terrain for northwest Florida. Hopefully the trails will have a speedy recovery!

@@TaylorCarter The Florida Trail got tore up too. There is a crew working on Altha Tract on the FT this weekend. That is the section along the Chipola River. I saw thru hikers routed around it last weekend. That is a shame. pretty part of the trail.

Good to see you back on trail. I did the loop there last year.

Really enjoyed your video. Love that area's trails. You should do a little yo-yo of the Odum Scout trail. Starts at High Falls. It's a little rough at the start, up and over the falls, but once you get clear it's a slow incline up to that intersection you showed. If it's rained any in the last month, there should be water up at the intersection spring. A few really nice vistas too. Also, I agree with the blaze thing. It is stupid not to have any available in confusing spots, at least.

Hi. Please see my comments above regarding the Odum trail and lack of blazes in general. Thanks!

thanks for the info! I’ve been dayhiking various areas of the Pinhoti with my dog. But I’m buying gear to start backpacking and camping. Good to know there’s lots of water. Not surprising though coz we’ve been get lots of rain in Bham recently. I’ll buy the Guthooks Pinhoti guide. I watched some of the youtube videos of the girl who hiked it, collected the data, and submitted it to Guthook. And... Happy Birthday!

Thank you! It's awesome that you're chipping away at some of those trails and getting the gear necessary for longer trips!

My first overnight was on that section of the pinhoti last Fall. Being of the same stature, I was wondering what footwear you chose. I’m new to backpacking and haven’t found “the shoe.”
