Epic Alpine Bushcraft

Күн бұрын

This Bushcraft Shelter is made of survival matreial: wood, moss, stones, cow skins, tendon cord. I built it inspired by the native american pit shelters, with a gap on top as a natural chimney. Around it is still enough protected space for cooking, sleeping and storing firewood. Enjoy watching!
Take a look at my merch tools from Cut360 made in Stubai, Austria:

Cool shelter, there is nothing like having a open fire inside. Not many people have skill to build one without being too smoky inside.

I looked into it, and it basically isn’t On public land. Lots of people told me just go out into a WMA or national forest deep and no one will find you. But no one had recommendations of where I could actually be done. I go camping on a lake on islands where you’re allowed to camp with no permit, but you are only allowed to cut deadfall already dead trees, and where I am that means not many. Not like our west where they have beetle kill areas with tons of dead trees. It might work better there. Of course you can’t use them for firewood and most of those places because of fire bans. You’re also supposed to leave the land exactly as you found it which includes no permanent structure is. So you could build a shelter like this with all deadfall and then destroy it at the end. And if no one saw you during to argue it was a perm structure, I guess you technically wouldn’t be in violation of anything. Anyway, I ended up buying some cheap land so I could do it and Hunt because it was that hard to do elsewhere.

Hello, thanks a lot! Well building the shelter would be possible within 10-15 hours. What takes much more time is the filming process, editing, cutting, etc. and I had to flee 3 times from thunderstorms when they moved too close. So in the end I needed about 10 days

It's nice but wouldn't it rain straight into it and drain the fire? I would suggest digging out half the height in the ground instead and make a hole for easier lighting the fire in the rock formation.

Looks like a fire trap to me. Built of largely dry wood, using dry branches facing inside to support the cow hides, and the kindling pile is too close to the fire. Besides that you made your bed on the side away from the entrance - with the fire between you. Who watches the fire when you sleep?

Excuse me for asking but I need clarification. The headline stated Bulding a survival shelter which would indicate you were caught out for some reason. As a suvival shelter built quickly to get out of the weather, its not bad but as a weekend retreat which I suspect this is, its pitiful. How did you survive in the few days it took you to build it?
@EpicAlpineBushcraft
@EpicAlpineBushcraft Жыл бұрын
Hello, I refer to the construction itself, because a pit shelter like this is buildable within one day, out of the material you can find around in the area. Well, except the cow skins

Let's see.... He's got a wide smoke hole so that there's no fuel above the flame to ignite. He's got 4 sturdy posts driven deep into the ground, topped with 4 substantial crown logs half-lapped and pinned to the tops. He's got an evenly-distributed load all around, so the central frame doesn't rack. He's got his fire contained within a rock circle and hearth, limiting risk from sparks or igniting fuel in or on the ground. He's sleeping under rafters with wide gaps topped by hides for an easy escape route. He's farthest from the doorway and any wandering critters. Plus, he's basically copied an indigenous design, proven over thousands of years to not wipe out the tribes using it. Your own home should be so safe!
