Hello, is there much of an effect on mpg what do you get?

Hi, I did some tests actually. With the first setup I was running that was heavier I got about 5 mpg less than I normally would get without the tent on. After some easy mods to lighten the roof load and lower the tents profile I get ~34-38 mpg in the auto with the roof loaded. Which is a negligible difference to what I get without the roof loaded. The biggest difference in fuel economy is staying under 3k rpm, which means sitting at 60-65 mph on motorways. About the speed I prefer in the Jimny until I upgrade the suspension. I suspect the ‘Borg cube’ aerodynamics mean when adding a tent it’s not making mpg much worse lol

Great setup. Is that the 1.4 x 2m awning? I've been considering one for a while, but I thought it might be too small to be practical. Has it been okay for you?

Paul Sheppard hi mate. Yeah it’s small however it’s enough for my wife and I. What I did was make a custom extension that bridges the gap between the awning and the roof tent. I’ve posted about it on my blog geordiejimny.com/custom-awning-extension This gives us 2.7m at the widest point, narrowing to 1.4m (@ 2m out). The awning is the Darche Eclipse from Trekoverland.com I’m actually remaking the extension out of matching material to the awning, posting my progress on Instagram then I’ll update the blog 👍 Hope this helps.
