A classic solo camping Adventure! Fishing the mangroves and beach for food, the bugs made it tough and the bite was...small😅 but the open camp fire and extra delicious catch and cook in the end made it a memorable trip.

The word "hoochie" makes me laugh more than it should lol. I've said this before, but as someone who suffers with insomnia, these videos send me into the most peaceful sleep. And I mean that in the most positive way. My mind just drifts away to a better place. No fake shouting for the camera like a lot of creators. No over-the-top dramatic music to create suspense. Just a guy with a kind demeanor, on an island by himself, talking to the camera. I don't even know at what point I fell asleep, but I woke up in the morning with the video completed lol. Don't worry, I always go back and watch them when I'm awake. Thank you from Los Angeles Rod.

Metal skewers have a function different than wood ones. Metal conducts heat. You find wood used for soft meats and fruit/veg where internal heat isn't needed and metal for raw red meat cooking. If you use metal with foods that are soft like fish, you may want to adjust your cooking heat/time to account for the heat transmitted internally by the skewer. Yes, soaking wood skewers for a good hour+ helps with the burning, raising them up from the coals and ensuring a no-flame in the coal bed are also key elements. To the rest, well done and thank you for an enjoyable outing adventure :)

I was looking for this video for the longest time. The part at 54 minutes where you talk about humans becoming part of the food chain resonated with me for whatever reason, the lackadaisical regard for just the way it is when doing dangerous things I completely understand. Sometimes ill kayak out miles and stay on an island for a few hours and whatever happens happens, i feel peace and understand im completely in tune with nature and vulnerable. Thanks for the great videos as always

You could take a little juice box packet of coconut milk next time you do a ceviche style meal. The polynesians call it Kokoda (Sounds like KohkohnDah) and its any fish/shell fish, lime juice, coconut milk, chilli, little bit of dice tomato and onion and the herbs you love. Mix it up an serve it in a half coconut shell for that thumbnal glory!

I love that he’s got the new gear and boat and all. But he’s doing the same ol with the new gear. Footage, I can’t say a single bad thing. Your attention to detail is UNMATCHED. I know you have a family. A lot of us are looking for the survival C,C&C. You’ve got some great gear. Maybe a solo 7 day? I know even that might be a bit much but if planning could take affect and you could give us a great 4-5 part series over a week adventure!, I mean, it’d be wonderful. Anyways, enough of my computer chair editing. I, aside from all of that, still love you, your family and your content dearly. I can’t thank you enough for what you’ve provided thus far, brother! Thank you!!

For all the international viewers, the humble flathead is extremely common all over Australia, but it could be argued that it is almost our best tasting fish. It's commonness makes it easy to dismiss. But a fresh 50 to 60 cm flatty, cooked simply, is glorious.

not sure if these products are available in Australia but they have been in the EU for a long time and in the US more recently, but on all my outdoor clothing I apply "Permethrin", and instead of bug spray I have found that "Picaridin" based lotions work best. for fishing/sweating etc... (both of these are in some ways similar to bear spray type products that come from black pepper plant chemicals.) For base camp I end up using Natural "Pyrethrin" Concentrate (the product in those expensive butane burner incense dispensers for camping... Termacell)... not sure if any of these would work with midges as they don't really work with black flies here. but they do work with mosquitos and noseeums... More unsolicited advice from your viewers yay!

Great trip Rod! I wonder if the first flattie was actually closer because the tape didn’t start at 0, or at least it looked like the hash mark for zero wasn’t where the edge was. You probably would not have kept him if he was that close anyways haha. I respect how you only catch and take what you need and release the rest.

mark the bottom of your boat in inches or cm etc ... the bugs hate acidic skin that's why they don't care about salt water. (lemon juice any thing like that lemony vinegar whatever just acidic oil is best so lemon oil etc. oil however exacerbates sub burn to those that suffer from it.) That food looked so damn good I'm almost crying.
