► ABOUT THIS HIKE
In June 2023 I spent 3 days canoeing in the waters of Swedish Lapland, east of Jokkmokk, above the arctic circle in northern Sweden. My trip started in Årrenjarka from where I canoed west along to coast to Saggat. I camped on a small inhabited island near the start of the Kvikkjokk delta. On the second day I canoed up the Gamájåhkå river towards the border of Sarek National Park. I explored the many channels in the delta and went up the Tarraätno river as far as possible. I camped on a lake plateau (lake dock) on lake Mierdékjávrre. On the third day I hiked up to the peak of Prinskullen and canoed back in a storm to Årrenjarka.
Special thanks to Matti @JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA for his advice as a local outdoors expert.
This is an ambient film without dialog.

What I love most about your videos, besides the excellent filming and editing, is that you allow all the beautiful sounds of nature (the birds singing, the sound of the paddle on the water, the wind in the trees, the sizzling of your stove) without talking through it all or playing super loud music. Awesome trip. I'm sure I'll never make it there, so this is the next best thing. Thank you for sharing the beauty of our world for those of us who will never see these corners.

Harmen! Your videos should be prescribed to anyone who deals with anxiety, stress or depression. I’m always in awe of the beauty God has made and how you capture it perfectly. My husband and I watch faithfully and enjoy all the little things. The coffee in the morning, the unpacking and packing, the quiet, the sunsets, everything. And we always have fun looking for that tiny Bible verse at the end!

Harmen is truly still an undiscovered gem, amazing filmmaking as ever. Every video from the first to the last is of extraordinary quality. The silent style allows for an immersive experience, no distraction from the majesty of the natural world on show and allowing the viewer to fill in the blanks with wherever their mind wanders as though they themsleves were on these beautiful journeys. Thank you Harmen!

What primarily describes the film for me is 'serenity'. Throughout the film I was drawn into a stillness and silence that I'm sure you were feeling during much on this adventure. Would love to spend a night on the platform with water on all four sides to camp from. Spectacular film Harmen! You brought out the bare essence of what this experience must have contained so beautifully. Your films are so amazing and full of vitality and granduer and yet including the solitude and intimacy you must be experiencing. That my friend is called the complete package expression and exactly what one would wish could be established in all filming. Thanks!

Hallo Harmen, Ik ben in september naar Madeira geweest. Aanleiding was jouw silent hiking ter plaatse.

We thought you were going to finish with the oars on the ground, but you launch yourself !!!! :))))). You are "growing" very fast. Really awesome Harmen! Thank you. I’m not particularly a “water” person, (more alpine) but this is very inspiring and beautiful. Those floating “plateaus “ are very cool and of course the soothing sound of water everywhere. Which leads me to this observation. There is, in every individual I think, of a longing for nature. Some will indulge and some will not and on a political/cultural level the same applies. The existence of those man made platforms speaks very well to me about the culture of Sweden.

Canoeing has much appeal to me, as an occasional option to hiking, for both gear storage and greater tranquility. When I was in Finnish Lapland, many years ago on a car trip, the water temperature was “bracing,” and the local mosquitoes were very hungry! However, biting insects did not seem an issue on this trip. Very relaxing and enjoyable.

I am getting emotional by watching this video. the calm and serene environment is overwhelming. After seeing your video on the Mont Blanc i knew what i wanted to do: back to nature. I sold my boat and bought the gear i needed (thanks to your video's ) and then.... the doctors told me they have to cut my leg and correct the angle to save my knee. that would take a whole year to recover....So, maybe next year i can go make the trip to the mountains. Sweden is also on my bucketlist if i can call it that.. thanks Harmen for inspiring me. God bless you!

Thanks for another excellent film. In July of 2022 I hiked south from Saltoluokta to Kvikkjokk - in fine weather - and then did a quick two-hour boat session with Bjorn the boatman there to the edge of the shallow lagoon featured here. But then I had to catch the bus to pick up some of my stuff in Gallivare before catching a flight back from Tromso, so thanks for filling in the things there wasn't time to do. This summer it was Hemavan to Adolfström, i.e. the southern end of the Kungsleden trail. But did not progress further because I did not like the rumours circulating (in July & August) about the mystery illness spreading down from the north, closing the huts to those without prior bookings or those simply tenting.
