I believe the wood you used for your fire was fatwood which contains pine sap, we used fatwood as fire starter and not for actually burning.
@TolbersCamping2 жыл бұрын
Makes sense thanks! I’ll use it to starts fires, but not for cooking or boiling water
@zilla51422 жыл бұрын
You are 100% correct. That's why people dont burn pine in their fireplaces. Sticky soot mess in fireplace stacks. Dont cook over it. Ok to burn in fire pit to watch and look at.

The sticks your using are Fat wood sticks. Made for fire starting and are full of resin. Not meant to be cooking on just for starting the fire more easily. That's what was causing all the soot you were seeing. Great video.
@TolbersCamping2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much, glad I know now 😂
@ryansessions62782 жыл бұрын
they may not have chemicals in those sticks...usually they are pine wood and the natural sap burns really hot and with black smoke....pine is great for starting fires but definitely wouldn't solely use it for a campfire

Nice video and I enjoy the channel. A tip I learned to reduce soot on your pot when cooking over a real fire is to rub the outside of the pot with some dish soap. The slightest film coating of dish soap on the outside, don't overdo it. After your cook and when the pot cools, take a paper towel and it (most of it) will come right off. Again, not perfect as you will get a little bit of soot remaining but it gets rid of a majority. I keep a super small bottle in my kit for when I car camp (if I am cooking over a fire). Cheers!!!

Pine starter wood has a natural pitch in it. Not any chemicals added. We only use pine to get fires started quickly and we add different oak wood to heat and cook with. Won’t hurt you but the taste of pine is not as pleasant as the pine smell.

Is the wood you bought called, fat wood? If so, that's pine with a lot of resin in it and that's why it's used to start fires instead of other things people use such as birch bark fibers, etc. Perhaps the bricks could be used to make a fire pit? Any brick chips could be put in as a base for the fire? Just some thoughts. Keep a pack of gloves in your car. They are handy to have if needed, for a lot of things.

It’s pine tar or pine sap. Burns hot leaves ash everywhere. The pine also is not a great flavor pick up some hardwood as well. Oak pecan mesquite each has a flavor profile
