Solo Dragon Disciple - Ep.1: From Candlekeep To Davaeorn's Defeat

I wanted to see how fast I could get through Baldur's Gate, Shadows of Amn, and Throne of Bhaal with a solo sorcerer (dragon disciple) with Ascension and SCS (insane, double damage).
In this episode, I roll my character, rush Mutamin's Garden for an xp boost, grab a few items, and rush through Nashkel, the Bandit Camp, and Cloakwood (my game is bugged, so I have to use the console to get to Cloakwood Mines).
Everything went smoothly except the Davaeorn fight. He managed to get me with a Horror, but I was lucky and survived.

Thanks! Yeah, ATLA is great, and Azula is perfect for a dragon disciple. As for mods, I have Rogue Rebalancing, IWDification divine and arcane spell packs, most of the difficulty components from SCS, several quality of life components from Tweaks Anthology, and Ascension for ToB. I also have Bubbs' extended spell menu.

As far as I remember, Windows will warn you that the file is dangerous, but it's not. Lots of us in Davaeorn's Discord channel have it installed and have no problems.

Ha! 😄 You put more than 16 con for a non-fighter, non-shortie. Then again, if you really want that regen on 20+ con, you got it. Wisdom indeed does nothing for a non-cleric, it's better as a dump stat. 16 int with the book means 4 mind flayer hits, though that will never happen for a spellcaster.

Stats don't really matter all that much on sorcerers, and it's easy to get good rolls on them. I knew I would need high strength to unlock certain doors. The dexterity was for ranged thac0 and AC. As a solo run without a healer, the regen is really nice to have, and since this was an attempt at a fast run, drinking healing pots would have added a fair bit of time, so the max constitution was justifiable in my view. I knew I wouldn't be dealing with too many mind flayers, but I figured why not put the points in intelligence. In hindsight, I could have probably put intelligence lower (9 for wands and scrolls) and boosted wisdom (9 + 1 book), as I had an insight potion dispelled at a crucial moment during the fight with Amelyssan when I was going for a rest, so it's not 100% a dump stat on a sorcerer or mage. High charisma for npc interactions and good prices because I knew I would be buying some expensive items at various points in the run and didn't want to have to spend too much time scrounging for gold.

How did you get the gold outlines on the interface? I have the 2.6 version installed and I dont have the same UI, and the background is black and not grey like yours... icons on left are grey/white too, I try googling but only found a 4 year old post on the beamdog forums that features the interface you have in a screenshot but nothing else. Anyways, I bow before your mastery, this is some serious meta-gaming here. EDIT: I found that by deactivating SoD it works, but is there a mod to bring it back WITH SoD installed? EDIT 2: Nevermind found what I was looking for. Removing SoD works, but there's the next best thing which is "LeUI-BG1EE" I installed that mod in 10sec and it gives just this interface too. You can also chose the BG2 interface if you want that. But for the pristine unmodded experience, you can just uncheck the SoD DLC in the BG1ee game in steam. Now back to the video 🙂

@@boldthumb4621 took a while but yeah, the mod is great, allows selecting all inside a container to sell (no more dble-clicking for full qty for each item) and few other QoL. The only bad thing is that it reverts to the old journal/quest log, which is much harder to sort thru. But yeah, a good find indeed. Your channel is too, That's some nice speed running. Will be following the adventures of "Princess Azula" in BG2 later in the next few weeks 🙂

@@boldthumb4621 How is that possible You have so many Hit points? 36 at level 1, I have 14 with familiar summoned. Also how is your familar able to shapeshift?

@@HoneyBadger1184 The Imp, which you get if you are Lawful Evil, is able to cast Polymorph Self once per day.

How is that possible You have so many Hit points at level1? Familiar doesn't give You that many in BG1 .

I'm not exactly sure, but I think it's a bug caused by a mod component that increases the max HP of all creatures in the game. I tested it a while ago, and as far as I remember, the Imp familiar gives the most HP but gives the least in vanilla.

The installation is clearly bugged, you see "Invalid: 123123" text all the time. Probably some components modifying the maxhp are conflicting resulting in cheated max hp amount.@@HoneyBadger1184

@boldthumb4621 Out of character creation, the character has over 30 hit points and improved aclarity. Your mods don't increase the challenge, but nerf the game. Nerf means to make it easier.

@@freefall9832 The hit points make almost no difference. Enemies do double damage. I could have accomplished this just as easily without the extra hit points. They come from the familiar, which is the actual overpowered early "item". Improved alacrity is only outside combat. Its purpose is entirely for the convenience of faster buffing outside combat. There's only one instance in the whole run where I use it in combat (off-screen webs), but it again wouldn't have made any difference to the outcome; it just made it faster. There are thousands of aspects to the game that could make it easier or harder. You could say that using arcane magic in the first place is too powerful. I mean, no one asked you about your opinion, yet you felt that you had to share it. Why is that? Do you feel insecure about your skill in the game? Why don't you post a video of your own gameplay to prove what an absolute gigabrain alpha you are?
